The role is expected to carry out implementations, maintenance, configuration, administration, operation, and the support of the infrastructure of various high profile IT systems including the PKI running on various operating systems.
The successful candidate will be focused on improving the stability and performance of the system, maintaining, and improving the security posture of the systems, continuous monitoring of the system health, troubleshooting issues that arise and ensure compliance with security standards. In addition, the successful candidate should be a mentor for fellow technical IT personnel.

As our IT Systems Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by:
Support & Maintenance
- Providing technical leadership for the infrastructure aspect of HID’s end-to-end services.
- Leading the implementation, administration, and support of the infrastructure (including Windows/Linux Servers physical/virtual, pcs, firewalls, F5s, switches, SCCM, WSUS, LogRhythm, SolarWinds etc.)
- Incident Management – Leading and providing thorough system support, and tracking status and updates through the HID service management tool as per ITIL framework.
- Leading Level 2 support for both HID and 3rd party provided infrastructure.
- Leading with the technical perspective for root cause analysis for L3 support to determine both the best course of action for Restorations and Resolutions of incidents in systems, processes, and services, and assist with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventive measures.
- Liaising with internal teams and 3rd party suppliers as required, supporting their Level 3 investigations into incidents/problems/requests escalated.
- Assisting in the support of the IT systems at the Malta factory as well as the customer facing systems.
- Supporting the operation of the PKI which includes the Qualified Certificate Authority
- Performing the Master CAO, CAO and System Administrator Trusted Roles as per the Trusted Role Procedure and associated Terms of Reference, and the holding of credentials as per EIDAS.
- Problem Management – leading with the root cause analysis and determining both the best course of action for Restorations and Resolutions for incidents, and the resolution of problems.
Deployments & Change Management
- Ensuring quality is built in throughout the Project life cycle through document reviews, and by managing testing activities to assure the quality of all project deliverables including hardware, software, and documentation.
- Specifying and designing systems. Selecting appropriate design standards, methods, and tools, consistent with agreed architectures and ensures they are applied effectively. Reviewing others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology.
- Ensuring that the system design balances functional, service quality, security, and systems management requirements.
- Change Management - Ensuring changes to the live systems are all adequately planned, tracked, tested, documented, approved, and audited with the appropriate back-out plans.
- Managing work package by leading to achieve project goals and objectives.
Stakeholder and Knowledge Management
- Chairing technical meetings and presenting to a varied stakeholder group.
- Participating in ‘Core Teams’ as required, either in the role of the Service Lead, or within the teams supporting the Core Team Service Lead by taking on the Implementation lead role and reporting on work packages etc.
- Leading with maintaining and testing disaster recovery and fail-over procedures.
- Engaging with suppliers and documenting all technical materials for knowledge sharing.
- Knowledge Management – leading with the generation and maintenance of all technical system and troubleshooting documentation, such as the creation of user guides, manuals, training video and slide-deck etc. ensuring proper version control is employed in accordance with the latest standards.
- Ensuring IT compliance standards are maintained as appropriate for independent auditing, implement and champion best practice processes.
- Gaining and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the infrastructure and environment, providing expert advice regarding use of all the components of the end-to-end service provided to our customer.
- Coaching and supporting less experienced members of the team.
What we will love about your background:
- Formal Windows and/or Linux certifications
- ITIL foundation certification
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with incident management tool
- Demonstrates strong customer facing skills.
- Higher level education in IT or a related degree. Or in the absence of a relevant degree an additional 5 years’ experience in addition to the years of proven experience listed below.
Your Experience and Education include:
- Proven experience of at least 5 years successfully supporting maintenance and operations in enterprise environments
- Experience in installing and configuring servers (physical and VMs) and Active Directory
- Knowledge of Microsoft/Linux Server Administration gained through hands on experience.
- Experience in patch management, anti-virus updates, and back up management.
- Experience working in Data Centers
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and able to find root causes, capture learning, share knowledge, and prevent re occurrence.
- Experience in planning and assigning tasks to various team members; report on team activities and trends.
- Experience and understanding of PKI Solutions.
- Experience building effective working relationships with customers and suppliers.
