As our IT System Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by:
Support & Maintenance
- Providing expert-level leadership in the configuration, optimization, and maintenance of key software systems, including Microsoft Windows Servers with features such as WSUS, DNS, and AD, Microsoft SQL Servers, and PKI systems like Microsoft CA and PrimeKey. The successful candidate will ensure these systems are configured and maintained according to best practices, regularly updated, and optimized for deployment environments. As a subject matter expert, they will guide the team in resolving complex software-related issues, ensuring seamless integration and compliance with established software deployment standards.
- Incident Management – Leading and providing thorough system support, and tracking status and updates through the HID service management tool as per ITIL framework.
- Providing specialized Level 3 support for HID and third-party software systems, engaging after system administrators have performed their Level 1-2 troubleshooting. Focusing on resolving complex, escalated issues through expert root cause analysis and in-depth troubleshooting, ensuring thorough and effective resolution.
- Supporting the operation of PKIs which may include a Qualified Certificate Authority
- Performing the CAO (Certificate Authority Operator) and System Administrator Trusted Roles in accordance with the Trusted Role Procedure and associated Terms of Reference, ensuring compliance with EIDAS and ICAO standards for the holding and management of credentials for specific customer contracts.
- Problem Management – leading with the root cause analysis and determining both the best course of action for Restorations and Resolutions for incidents, and the resolution of problems.
Deployments & Change Management
- Ensuring quality is built in throughout the project lifecycle through document reviews and by managing testing activities to assure the quality of all project deliverables, including hardware, software, and documentation.
- Specifying and designing systems, selecting appropriate design standards, methods, and tools consistent with agreed architectures, ensuring their effective application. Reviewing others' system designs to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient resource use, and integration of multiple systems and technologies.
- Ensuring that the system design balances functional requirements, service quality, security, and systems management needs.
- Change Management - Ensuring that changes to live systems are adequately planned, tracked, tested, documented, approved, and audited, with appropriate back-out plans, following ITIL best practices.
Stakeholder and Knowledge Management
- Chairing technical meetings and presenting to a varied stakeholder group.
- Participating in ‘Core Teams’ as required, either in the role of the Service Lead, or within the teams supporting the Core Team Service Lead by taking on the Integrations lead role and reporting on work packages etc.
- Leading with maintaining and testing disaster recovery and fail-over procedures.
- Engaging with suppliers and documenting all technical materials for knowledge sharing.
- Knowledge Management – leading with the generation and maintenance of all technical system and troubleshooting documentation, such as the creation of user guides, manuals, training video and slide-deck etc. ensuring proper version control is employed in accordance with the latest standards.
- Ensuring IT compliance standards are maintained as appropriate for independent auditing, implement and champion best practice processes.
- Gaining and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the infrastructure and environment, providing expert advice regarding use of all the components of the end-to-end service provided to our customer.
- Coach and support less experienced members of the team

- Being fully conversant with the infrastructure and the application software interfacing to the devices to gain sufficient knowledge to be able to troubleshoot system issues.
- Being accountable for timely communication of status or critical decisions needed from accountable executives - Proactively identify options/recommendations.

What we will love about your background:
- Proven experience of at least 5 years successfully supporting maintenance and operations in enterprise environments as per below areas.
- Experience in PowerShell scripting for automating system configurations, deployments, and routine maintenance tasks, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual errors across Windows Server environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2022 features, including Active Directory (AD), DNS, Group Policy Objects (GPO), Hyper-V, and Failover Clustering.
- Experience in data center operations, including the installation and configuration of physical and virtual servers.
- Experience with Cisco network devices, VLANs, routing, and general network configurations.
- Experience with Veeam Backup solutions.
- Strong understanding and experience with the patch management process, specifically involving WSUS deployments.
- Experience with PKI Solutions.
- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
- Additional European language preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, international technical standards, solution documents etc.
Your Experience and Education include:
- Relevant certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, Red Hat Certified Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, and CCNA are highly preferred to demonstrate technical expertise in key systems and infrastructure.
- ITIL Foundation certification is desirable to ensure familiarity with industry-standard best practices for service management.
