Embedded QA Intern
Embedded QA Intern
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Embedded Firmware Testing & Lab Intern to join our MBS-Linux team. This is an entry-level role aimed at students in their final years or recent graduates who want to work where hardware meets software. You will support validation, lab bring-up, and test automation for embedded devices and prototypes: setting up boards, running repeatable tests, capturing results, and helping turn early concepts into reliable, production-ready products. Python (or similar scripting) is a strong plus for test scripts, lab automation, and tooling. If you like debugging “almost works” setups, reading schematics, using a multimeter without fear, and making test results trustworthy not just “it blinked once” - you’ll fit in well.
What you will be doing
- Support firmware and hardware validation on dev boards and lab setups (power-up, basic measurements, functional checks)
- Write and maintain test scripts (mainly Python) for unit-style checks, simple integration tests, and repeatable lab workflows
- Help prepare and document lab procedures: cabling, configuration, test data, and clear pass/fail criteria
- Use Git for test code, configs, and documentation; follow team practices with guidance
- Work on Linux (CLI): run scripts, manage logs, and learn embedded Linux tooling used in the lab
- Communicate findings in English (written reports, tickets, short summaries); participate in reviews and ask questions early
- Optionally assist with CI-related test runs or local automation mirroring pipeline steps (with mentoring)
- Learn buses and protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, basic networking) in the context of real test scenarios
Your profile
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is studying or has recently finished studies in electronics, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a related field, with genuine interest in hardware and software together
- Has basic Python experience (scripts, small tools, or coursework/lab projects) and motivation to use Python for automation and tests
- Understands fundamentals of electronics: voltage/current, basic components, reading simple schematics, and safe use of lab equipment (multimeter, power supply, etc.)
- Has hands-on experience with microcontrollers or dev boards (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, STM32/Nucleo, ESP32, or similar) - tutorials and university labs count
- Is comfortable on Linux (command line: files, permissions, running scripts) and willing to learn more about embedded Linux on the job
- Very good English, both written and spoken, as you will work in a multinational environment
- Fluent in Polish - must have
- Availability to work a minimum of 3 days a week in the office
- Knows Git basics: clone, commit, push/pull, branches and is open to learning good practices with guidance
- Can write and run tests (unit tests, simple integration checks, or test scripts) and cares about reproducible results
- Is curious, asks questions, and documents what they learn
Nice to have:
- Basic experience with soldering
- SEP certification
- Experience with pytest, unittest, or other Python test frameworks
- CI/CD exposure (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) even personal or university projects
- Basic C for firmware or drivers (small modules; not production-grade embedded Linux expected)
- Familiarity with buses and protocols: UART/serial, I2C, SPI, or basic TCP/IP concepts
- Bash or shell scripting for glue and automation
- Exposure to Yocto, systemd, or kernel topics from courses or self-study
We want the internship to align with your chosen direction of development, interest, and passion. We will be very interested in your private or university projects - especially those where you wrote code that interacted with real hardware, or where you designed and ran automated tests - which you can present to us during the interview
