Embedded Linux Developer

Can you bring your embedded Linux experience to our team? Join our team in Krakow, Poland and enjoy a collaborative culture that empowers you to build a career you can be proud of.

What you would do as our Embedded Linux Developer

These are the first two hires of this team at the Kraków site. You'll work autonomously on site while collaborating closely with the wider team in Austria. No prior access-control or POS domain knowledge is required — a willingness to learn the domain is what matters.

You would also:

  • Help build and maintain SKIDATA's custom embedded Linux distribution (Yocto-based) running on our hardware CPU modules — NXP i.MX6, i.MX8M Plus and NVIDIA Tegra ARM SoCs. Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies and customer inquiries and reconcile customer accounts and ensure accurate ledger balances. These modules power SKIDATA's access-control devices used in Mountains, Sports & Entertainment and Parking & Mobility division.

The skills and experience you need

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has deep Yocto Project expertise — layers, recipes, BSP customization, BitBake internals, SDK generation, devtool workflows, and layer maintenance across releases and strong embedded Linux knowledge — bootloaders, system, kernel configuration, device trees
  • Has knowledge of Kernel driver development — writing/porting Linux kernel drivers and adapting BSPs for specific SoCs, Boot chain knowledge — U-Boot customization, secure/verified boot, flashing and provisioning workflows for NXP and NVIDIA targets and Cross-compilation & toolchains — ARM cross-toolchains, sysroots, multi-arch builds
  • Has solid C knowledge (Rust an advantage), Linux debugging proficiency — gdb, strace, perf, etc. and Hardware bring-up — debugging via UART, JTAG, GPIO/I2C/SPI peripherals
  • Has good documentation, code quality and collaboration practices — Git workflows (PR/Gerrit-based review), handling vendor BSP forks and rebasing, code reviews
  • Has knowledge of security & quality and Security-conscious development — secure boot, OTA update mechanisms (SWUpdate / Mender / RAUC), signed images and has knowledge of CVE tracking, patching of the Yocto stack, also has multimedia experience — GStreamer, Libcamera, SIP, WebRTC
