Industrial Design Engineer
Location: Xiamen, China
Job Overview
Under general direction, assists Industrial Design Group in Lake Forest, CA, USA in the development of complex CAD modeling, assembly, and rendering, requiring comprehensive software skills, strong written and verbal communication, scheduling coordination, sound independent judgment, and a desire to learn. This position is responsible for modeling, documenting and communicating new product concepts and designs, and working to ensure design integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate (read, write, and speak in English) through several methods (e-mail, voice mail, telephone conversation, video conferencing, in-person, etc.) with the Industrial Design Group in Lake Forest, CA, to report the status of new, ongoing and completed assignments.
- Aids project teams in the development of aesthetics of new products including faucets, shower systems, doorknobs, levers, handle sets, accessories, and electronic components.
- Passionate in creating renderings and 3D digital models by accurately translating the design intent of concepts provided via sketches, verbal communication, and/or existing forms or models.
- Ability to carry designs completely from concept sketches, to renderings, to solid CAD models.
- Ability to oversee outside resources in creating physical models from the CAD data. (i.e. stereo lithography and CNC services)
- Can work with engineers to ensure that aesthetic design is properly implemented in product engineering phase.
- Writing/Illustrating for US and foreign patents to legally protect designs.
- Can show focus and understanding of priorities while working on multiple projects in parallel.
- Comfortable with and quick to learn new software programs and procedures.
Key Requirements
- Preferred graduate from an accredited college or university or technical school related to Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field. (exceptions allowed)
- Multiple years of experience with at least one of the 3D software packages used by HHI.
- Mechanical understanding with the ability to design around standard engineering components and manufacturing requirements is preferred.
- Read, write, and speak in English to understand assignments, contribute to the design, and communicate project status on a multitude of projects in parallel.
Technical/Functional Competencies
- Skilled with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- 2D Software Experience – Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- 3D Software Experience – Pro\Engineer, Rhino Alias Studio Tools, Freeform and/or equivalent.
- Presentation Software is a plus.
- Document Control software and procedure experience a plus. - Interlink
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good work methodology and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable with and quick to learn new software programs and procedures.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of materials and production processes is preferred.
- Ability to understand basic written and oral instructions necessary to perform job functions.
