Job Overview
The General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and profitability of Wallace & Wallace, Midwest, and Shorty's. Reporting to the Managing Director, Wallace North America, this role leads all fence and overhead door operations across commercial and residential markets and has full accountability for business performance, including P&L results. 

The General Manager provides leadership to the senior management team and oversees approximately 160 employees through direct and indirect reporting relationships while driving operational excellence, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and sustainable growth.

 

Key Responsibilities
•    Lead all fence and overhead door operations across Wallace & Wallace, Midwest, and Shorty’s
•    Provide leadership, direction and support to the senior leadership team, including the Director of Finance, Director of Sales, and Director of Operations
•    Provide overall leadership and oversight for approximately 160 employees through direct and indirect reporting relationships
•    Assume full responsibility for the businesses’ P&L performance, including revenue growth, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability, cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance management
•    Develop and execute operational and business strategies aligned with organizational objectives
•    Drive operational excellence, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction across all business units
•    Support growth initiatives across commercial and residential markets
•    Promote a strong culture of health and safety and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures
•    Develop, mentor and support leaders while fostering employee engagement, accountability, and high performance
•    Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders
•    Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, innovation, and operational efficiencies
•    Partner with the Managing Director, Wallace North America, to achieve strategic and financial objectives
•    Occasional travel, both regional and international, will be required.  A valid passport and driver’s license is required

 

Desired Skills & Knowledge
•    Strong business, financial, and operational acumen with demonstrated P&L management experience
•    In-depth understanding of commercial construction operations and project delivery
•    Strong understanding of residential sales and customer service environments
•    Ability to balance the needs of large commercial projects with residential customer expectations
•    Proven leadership, teambuilding, coaching, and succession planning skills
•    Strong strategic planning and execution capabilities
•    Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills
•    Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical abilities
•    Ability to drive continuous improvement, organizational change and business growth
•    Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business management systems
•    ERP experience is preferred

 

Required Education & Experience
•    A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of degree
•    Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including senior management responsibilities with full P&L accountability
•    Significant leadership experience within the construction industry is required, including exposure to both commercial project-based operations and residential customer-focused business environments
•    Experience leading multiple departments and managing operational and financial performance
•    Experience overseeing both commercial and residential business segments is strongly preferred
•    Demonstrated success leading large teams and delivering sustainable operational and financial results
