Temporary Quality Engineer

What you would do as our Quality Engineer

Act as a key member of the Quality Assurance team, actively supporting and enhancing day-to-day quality operations. This role is pivotal in driving continuous improvement across products, processes, and systems, with a strong focus on reducing the Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) and Defective Parts Per Million (DPPM). The Quality Engineer will champion quality excellence by identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions, and fostering and promoting a culture of proactive quality management throughout the organisation.

 

You would also:

  • Support and maintain quality systems to ensure compliance with internal standards and customer requirements.
  • Lead initiatives to reduce CoPQ by identifying inefficiencies, waste, and recurring quality issues.
  • Monitor and analyse DPPM metrics, driving corrective and preventive actions to achieve measurable improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionality with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to resolve quality concerns and implement robust solutions.
  • Facilitate root cause analysis (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone) and ensure timely closure of non-conformances.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and process validations to uphold product and process integrity.
  • Support new product introductions by ensuring quality requirements are met.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement through training, coaching, and quality awareness activities.
  • Provide quality system guidance and hands-on technical support to the operational teams.
  • Ensure external customer concerns are dealt with in a prompt, effective manner.
  • Ensure that we are delivering quality assured products to both internal and external customers.
  • Provide hands-on technical quality support, applying stuctured problem-solving methodologies (e.g. 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa) and continuous improvement tools to drive down CoPQ and DPPM.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the Customer Services Department (CSD) for managing and resolving customer returns.
  • Investigate customer returns promptly, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Report quality issues, adverse trends, and proposed corrective actions to relevant stakeholders in a timely and data-driven manner.
  • Support production teams by identifying, analysing, and resolving quality issues at the source.
  • Proactively identify potential process risks and improvement opportunities to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
  • Perform incoming goods inspections as required, ensuring supplier compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct on-site product inspections at customer locations when necessary, representing the company professionally.
  • Execute internal audits and Factory Production Control (FPC) audits according to schedule, ensuring non-conformities are reported and closed out effectively.
  • Inspect stock and in-process materials to ensure ongoing compliance with quality standards.
  • Report any actions or conditions that may compromise health and safety, product quality, or operational performance.

 

The skills and experience you need

  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Prior experience in a quality assurance role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Competence in metrology and use of precision measuring equipment.
  • Certified or experienced Internal Auditor (ISO 9001 or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with ERP systems (e.g. AX) is advantageous.
  • Effective team player with the avility to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
