Safety and Quality Technician

The 2nd Shift Safety & Quality Professional is responsible for leading, coordinating, and continuously improving all safety and quality-related activities during second shift operations at the Ameristar facility. This role serves as the primary on-site safety and quality leader during off-shift hours, ensuring that all policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements are consistently executed.
This position plays a critical role in:
- Driving a proactive safety culture
- Reducing injuries and near misses through prevention-based strategies
- Ensuring product quality and process integrity
- Providing immediate incident response and problem resolution
- Supporting operational excellence through cross-functional collaboration
The role requires a high level of floor presence, technical competence, leadership influence, and independent decision-making.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on injury prevention, risk reduction, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.

What you will be doing:
Safety Leadership & Floor Engagement
- Maintain a visible and active presence on the production floor throughout the shift
- Serve as the primary safety resource for all second (and overlapping third) shift employees
- Provide real-time coaching on:
- Safe work practices
- Hazard identification
- Risk mitigation techniques
- Reinforce compliance with Ameristar safety policies, OSHA standards, and internal procedures
- Conduct routine safety observations, hazard assessments, and risk mitigation activities in alignment with ISO 45001 principles
- Coach employees and supervisors on safe work practices and hazard recognition
- Partner with operations to implement preventive safety measures and eliminate risks
Incident Management & Safety Tracking
- Respond immediately to workplace injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents.
- Provide initial assessment and coordinate appropriate medical response if necessary.
- Lead or support incident investigations, including root cause analysis (RCA), identification of contributing factors, and development of corrective/preventive actions
- Ensure all incidents are documented in compliance with OSHA recordkeeping requirements and entered into safety tracking systems
- Track and monitor safety tickets, corrective actions, and open investigations
- Follow through to ensure timely closure and effectiveness validation
- Identify trends and provide recommendations for injury prevention initiatives
Training & Safety Development
- Conduct and evaluate forklift operator certification and re-certification in accordance with OSHA Powered Industrial Truck standards
- Deliver or support toolbox talks and shift-based safety communications
- Provide hands-on coaching to reinforce:
- Proper PPE usage
- Equipment operation
- Safe work behaviors
- Assist with administration of prescription safety glasses program
- Identify training gaps and collaborate with leadership to implement improvement initiatives aligned with ISO 45001 competency requirements.
Safety Programs & Employee Engagement
- Lead and facilitate the 2nd Shift Safety Committee, including:
- Agenda development
- Meeting facilitation
- Action tracking
- Conduct monthly training for Area Safety Coaches
- Promote employee involvement in hazard identification programs, near-miss reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support company-wide safety campaigns and initiatives
- Drive accountability by ensuring departments are actively participating in safety programs
- Support continuous improvement efforts aligned with ISO 45001 risk-based thinking
Quality Assurance & Control Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications
- Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 quality management system requirements
- Perform in-process and final inspections to verify product conformity
- Identify, segregate, and control non-conforming materials per ISO standards
- Support corrective action processes to address quality issues
- Verify the accuracy of controlled documents, including prints and work instructions
- Act as a hands-on quality technician, supporting production as needed to improve manufacturing processes and address quality concerns in real time
- Perform inspections of parts and materials using appropriate tools and methods
- Verify compliance to specifications and tolerances
Process & Systems Auditing
- Conduct process audits according to established schedules and plans
- Evaluate adherence to work instructions, process controls, and quality standards
- Verify accuracy and currency of prints, work instructions and other controlled documents
- Document audit findings and communicate results to leadership
- Support continuous improvement efforts through data-driven recommendations
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication
- Participate in:
- Daily production meetings (as applicable)
- Shift handoff communications
- Support alignment between first, second, and third shift operations
- Act as a liaison between production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams
- Communicate safety and quality concerns clearly and effectively
- Escalate critical issues when necessary to maintain compliance and operational integrity
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to:
- Noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures
- Requires frequent walking, standing, and floor engagement
- Must be comfortable responding to on-floor incidents and emergencies
