Position Summary

Ameristar Perimeter Security USA, an ASSA ABLOY branded company,  is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Technician to support manufacturing operations through automation, controls, robotics, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving automated production equipment while supporting manufacturing efficiency, equipment reliability, and operational excellence.

The Engineering Technician will partner closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Quality teams to diagnose equipment issues, support automation projects, and assist in the implementation of new technologies throughout the manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities

Automation and Controls

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
• Assist in the programming, testing, and commissioning of PLC and HMI systems.
• Support the maintenance and optimization of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo motors, and motion control systems.
• Diagnose electrical and automation-related equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Support industrial communication networks and automated control systems.
• Assist with startup and validation of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.

Robotics

• Assist with programming, setup, troubleshooting, and optimization of industrial robots.
• Support robotic welding, fabrication, material handling, and automated production systems.
• Perform robot calibration, teaching, and process adjustments as required.
• Work with Engineering to improve cycle times, throughput, and equipment performance.

Manufacturing Support

• Provide technical support during production operations to minimize downtime.
• Respond to equipment failures and assist with root cause investigations.
• Work closely with Maintenance and Production teams to restore equipment functionality quickly and safely.
• Develop and document standard troubleshooting procedures.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, productivity, and product quality.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Assist with capital projects and automation upgrades.
• Support data collection and analysis to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Preventive and Predictive Maintenance

• Maintain preventive maintenance programs for automation and control systems.
• Inspect and verify proper operation of PLCs, robots, VFDs, sensors, control panels, and electrical systems.
• Assist with spare parts management and inventory for automation components.
• Maintain accurate documentation, schematics, and equipment records.

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Automation Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled systems.
• Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, sensors, relays, and control devices.
• Experience working with VFDs and automation equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and FactoryTalk software.
• Experience with Siemens PLC platforms.
• Experience with Fanuc, ABB, Motoman, or similar industrial robots.
• Knowledge of industrial networking protocols including Ethernet/IP.
• Experience with servo systems, machine vision systems, and motion control applications.
• Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
• Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work around moving machinery and manufacturing equipment.
• Occasional work at heights and within electrical control panels.
