Senior Manager, Canadian Tax

     

 

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager, Canadian Tax to lead all aspects of Canadian tax compliance, reporting, planning, and controversy management. This role will report directly to the V.P. of Tax and Treasury for the Americas and partnering closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and business leaders to ensure compliance with Canadian tax laws while identifying opportunities to optimize the company's tax position and support business growth.  

 

The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with deep technical expertise in Canadian corporate taxation, strong business acumen, and a proven ability to manage complex tax matters in a dynamic environment. 

 

What you will be doing

Tax Compliance & Reporting 

 

  • Lead the preparation, review, and filing of Canadian federal and provincial corporate income tax returns. 
  • Oversee tax accounting and reporting under IFRS and/or US GAAP, including quarterly and annual tax provisions. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate compliance with tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. 
  • Manage tax balances, deferred taxes, tax disclosures, and supporting documentation. 

Tax Planning & Advisory 

  • Provide tax guidance on business initiatives, acquisitions, restructurings, and cross-border transactions. 
  • Identify and implement tax-efficient strategies while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. 
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise stakeholders on potential impacts. 
  • Support transfer pricing policies and documentation requirements. 


Indirect Taxes 

  • Oversee GST/HST, provincial sales tax, customs, and other indirect tax obligations. 
  • Manage indirect tax audits, assessments, and refund opportunities. 
  • Collaborate with business teams to improve indirect tax compliance processes. 

 

Tax Controversy & Audit Management 

  • Lead interactions with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and provincial tax authorities. 
  • Manage tax audits, inquiries, objections, and appeals. 
  • Coordinate with external advisors and legal counsel as needed. 

Leadership & Business Partnership 

  • Build strong relationships across Finance, Legal, Treasury, HR, and operational teams. 
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and service providers. 
  • Drive continuous process improvement and tax technology initiatives. 

 

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field. 
  • CPA designation. 
  • 8+ years of progressive Canadian tax experience in public accounting, industry, or a combination of both. 
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax, tax accounting, and indirect taxes. 
  • Experience managing tax audits and controversies with the CRA. 
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
     

Preferred 

  • CPA In-Depth Tax Program or equivalent advanced tax specialization. 
  • Experience with multinational organizations and cross-border tax matters. 
  • Knowledge of transfer pricing principles and international tax regulations. 
  • Experience with SAP, OneSource, CorpTax, or similar tax technologies.
