Senior Legal Counsel - Privacy and Digital Compliance

ASSA ABLOY Group is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel with extensive experience of the General Data Protection Regulation (the GDPR) and with interest in technology law, cyber security and digital compliance legislation such as the Data Act, Cyber Resilience Act, NIS2, AI Act and adjacent areas of law. 

 

You will be part of the Privacy and Digital Compliance team within the Group Legal function, and work in close collaboration with the Privacy, Information Security, Product and R&D teams as well as business leaders. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong interest in working internationally with technology law and technology contracts as well as digital compliance in the evolving field of technology law, cyber security, information security and privacy.   

 

This role will have a key part in advising on and supporting the implementation of the relevant legal and policy requirements (e.g., the GDPR, Data Act, Cyber Resilience Act, NIS2 and AI Act). You will be an important contributor in our efforts to mitigate legal and contractual risk and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and our own high ethical standards for the handling of data.  

 

You will act as a trusted legal advisor for the legal matters in scope and apply legal and compliance expertise to existing data handling, contractual matters as well as strategic initiatives and processes furthering digital compliance. You will together with relevant stakeholders ensure alignment and sharing of best practices between divisions. You will also monitor and assess the evolving regulatory landscape for digital compliance globally and lead, co-ordinate, and manage ad-hoc projects and tasks, primarily within digital compliance.  

 

In this role you will report to the Group Chief Privacy Officer & Head Legal Digital Compliance Officer. This role is placed in Stockholm or Malmö, Sweden

 

About you 

You have the ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines within budget and consistently deliver high-quality work. You have documented experience in applying and advising on legal requirements in the technology law and digital compliance field, and interest in cyber and information security law and technology industry trends. Excellent legal and business judgment and a strong understanding of balancing compliance and commercial risk with the ability to assess and communicate risks to different audiences in a clear and actionable way.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

  • Support the VP & General Counsel and the Chief Privacy Officer & Head of Legal Digital Compliance in legal and contractual matters related to technology, digital compliance, cyber security, and information security. 
  • Provide legal expertise and support in creating controls, policies, training and supporting documentation relating to digital compliance, cyber security, and privacy.   
  • Work collaboratively in a decentralized and international environment to advocate a strong digital compliance culture, share best practices, and further develop our digital compliance framework. 
  • Follow-up and support the implementation of group level polices and controls. 
  • Monitor and advise on legal developments, primarily within the areas of digital compliance, data protection and information security law. 
  • Support group functions in identifying and assessing legal risk and documenting digital compliance requirements. 
  • Support negotiation and drafting of agreements.  

 

General tasks 

  • Project management of various digital compliance activities, including creating short reports, presentations, templates, guidelines 
  • Support the delivery of guidelines, trainings, workshops, and other awareness efforts related to digital compliance. 
  • Contract drafting, review and negotiation. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements  

  • Master’s degree in Law (or equivalent); specialization within Information Technology law and/or CIPP certification is preferred. 
  • At least 5-7 years of experience from working with and advising on technology law, digital compliance, cyber security, and commercial legal matters in a reputable law firm and/or an in-house role in a company with significant data handling activities. 
  • Familiarity with key international laws in the field of technology and digital compliance and experience from navigating different requirements. 
  • Strong interest in cyber security, privacy, and technology. 
  • Strong integrity and ability to stand your ground in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong organizational skills, maintaining attention to detail on multiple projects and adjusting to changing priorities. 
  • Strong analytical skills and good technical skills can translate digital compliance requirements into clear organizational and technical requirements for different audiences. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. 
  • Limited domestic and international travel will be required.
