Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer
Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer – Wireless Access control & IoT
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Hybrid role | Digital & Access Solutions EMEIA
Build Secure Embedded Firmware for ARM Cortex-Based Wireless IoT Devices Used in Real-World Access Systems
At ASSA ABLOY you will develop the firmware behind APERIO® — a globally deployed range of wireless locks used in environments where reliability, security, and performance are non-negotiable.
If you enjoy working close to hardware, debugging real time system behaviour, and building firmware that operates under strict power, security, and reliability constraints — this role will likely resonate.
Why this role matters
Wireless access control systems are becoming smarter, more connected, and increasingly security-critical. The firmware behind these devices directly impacts reliability, performance, connectivity, and user trust.
As part of our Wireless Lock product unit, you’ll help shape the next generation of secure embedded IoT solutions — contributing directly to how our products perform in the field and influencing technical decisions that affect global deployments.
The role
This is a senior engineering role where you own the design and evolution of embedded firmware for wireless access devices operating in constrained, security-critical environments. You will influence architecture, make key technical decisions, and ensure reliability, performance, and security across real-world deployments.
You’ll collaborate closely with hardware and product teams, translating system requirements into robust embedded solutions that scale across global installations.
What you’ll work on
- Develop secure and reliable embedded firmware in C for ARM Cortex M0–M4 platforms
- Implement and improve wireless connectivity features including BLE, Zigbee, NFC/ISO14443
- Debug complex embedded systems using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and other hardware tools
- Work across RTOS and bare-metal environments, contributing to robust and maintainable architectures
- Improve low-power performance and battery efficiency for connected devices
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern embedded development practices
What will help you succeed
- 5+ years of expertise in embedded C development on ARM Cortex MCUs (STM32, nRF52, TI, or similar)
- Solid experience with RTOS and/or bare-metal systems
- Strong background in firmware architecture work and specifications
- Proven track record in mentoring more junior developers
- Practical experience with CI/CD setup
Ideally you have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- wireless communication technologies (such as BLE, Zigbee, UWB, Wi-Fi) and protocols, ultra low-power optimisation.
- Embedded security design and protocols, cybersecurity compliance, RFID/NFC technology, access control systems.
