Senior Backend Developer
Want to build the event platform that powers hotel operations around the world?
Every day, hotel staff rely on accurate, real-time information to issue access, investigate incidents, manage devices, and keep operations running smoothly. At ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions in Stockholm, Sweden, our Event Hub team owns the platform that collects, processes, and delivers these events across the Vostio ecosystem.
We are looking for you, who wants to work close to the product, take ownership of a business-critical domain, and build distributed systems used by hotels around the globe. This is an opportunity to make a real impact while working in a collaborative environment that values innovation, ownership, and continuous development.
What you would do as our Senior Backend Developer
You would help design, build, and evolve a scalable event-driven platform. Your work will span architecture, software development, production operations, and continuous improvement, giving you the opportunity to influence both the technical direction and long-term success of a critical product area. This is not a role where you own a small service hidden deep within a large organisation. You would join a small, high-impact team responsible for a core product domain that powers how operational events are captured, processed, audited, and delivered across Vostio. The Event Hub team builds and operates the services, APIs, and event infrastructure that help hotels, partners, and internal teams understand what is happening across access management, devices, and connected systems. The team is responsible for event APIs used by customers, partners, and internal teams, as well as event streaming, subscription, and integration capabilities across the Vostio platform.
You would also:
• Build event-driven backend systems — Design and develop Java services that collect, process and distribute operational events from hotels, devices and access systems.
• Own APIs and integrations — Create APIs, subscriptions and integration capabilities that let customers and partners automate workflows and consume operational data.
• Design cloud-native solutions on AWS — Work primarily with Java and with scalable, resilient cloud services using modern AWS patterns, CI/CD and operational practices.
• Shape the technical direction — Influence architecture, challenge assumptions and help define how the Event Hub domain evolves over time.
• Take responsibility beyond coding — You would be involved in design discussions, production support, roadmap input and technical strategy.
The skills and experience you need
We are looking for someone with:
• Experience building backend systems in Java and delivering solutions from idea to production.
• Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating scalable solutions on AWS.
• Experience with event-driven, distributed, and integration-heavy systems, including strong API design skills.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern software engineering practices, combined with a pragmatic engineering mindset.
• The ability to simplify complex technical problems, communicate clearly, and take ownership of outcomes.
Nice to have: Kotlin, Go, Kafka, SNS/SQS, EventBridge or similar technologies; experience with SaaS platforms, IoT, telemetry, or operational data platforms.
Why developers join and stay
• Small team, big impact, every engineer has meaningful influence on architecture, priorities and technical direction.
• Real engineering challenges, you will build systems that process and distribute operational events across a global hospitality platform, balancing scalability, reliability and usability.
• Modern technology stack, the core of the role is Java, AWS, event-driven architecture, cloud-native services and modern engineering practices.
• Product mindset, we build for the long term. Teams have ownership, direct access to stakeholders and the freedom to make good technical decisions.
• Stockholm-based team with global reach, the systems you build are used by hotels around the world every day.
