Master Thesis Nr 4: AI-Guided Pricing and Quoting for B2B Sales
This thesis explores how artificial intelligence can support B2B sales teams in creating customer-specific quotes that are both fast to produce and commercially sound. Using the pricing and quoting process as a case study, the research will examine how AI-powered decision support can help configure offers and provide clear, explainable price guidance—such as a recommended price range—before a quote is sent to the customer.
The project will explore how relevant commercial data—including customer characteristics, product configuration, historical transactions, discounts, deal outcomes, and market context—can be used to guide pricing decisions in real time, while balancing quote speed, pricing consistency, transparency, and commercial quality.
Suggested Areas of Exploration:
· What data and commercial signals are needed to generate reliable, customer-specific price guidance?
· How can an AI-based recommendation approach be designed so that its guidance is explainable and trusted by sales teams?
· How should pricing guidance be presented during quote configuration to support effective commercial decisions?
· What governance, approval logic, and guardrails are required when AI supports B2B pricing and quoting?
· How can the proposed approach be demonstrated through a context-appropriate prototype, such as a proof of concept, decision-support tool, or interactive mock-up?
Expected Student Capabilities and Prior Knowledge:
· Understanding of B2B sales, pricing, quoting, or CPQ processes is valuable.
· Knowledge of artificial intelligence, data science, business analytics, or decision-support methods.
· Interest in explainable AI and the practical adoption of AI-supported recommendations in commercial settings.
· Analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to structure complex problems, assess data objectively, and develop practical solutions.
· A relevant academic background, such as Industrial Engineering and Management, Data Science, Computer Science, AI, Business Analytics, or a similar field.
