Following our recent acquisition by ASSA ABLOY and our continued success in the UK market, Biosite is expanding its team. Joining our Projects department, the Install/Service Engineer will be responsible for championing the Biosite proposition and successfully delivering the Installation/Service of its workforce management access control solution, on a flagship national infrastructure project. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop the role and make their mark in what is a rapidly growing technology company leading the way in workforce management for construction.   

 

The position will report directly to the Head of Projects and is a field-based role working in both a team of engineers and working alone.

 

Main responsibilities and tasks

 

  • Supervision & engineering of Installations, Maintenance and Service visits.
  • Liaise with clients on site and via telephone/email.
  • Brief engineers & sign onto safe systems of work & complete point of work risk assessments
  • Be lead on installation, service, maintenance, processes & improvements.
  • Attendance and completion of Service/Maintenance & Installation Visits
  • Installation of Access Control, Wireless Fire Alarms, and structured network cabling
  • Commissioning of Installations to include functional tests and technical sign offs with Technical Support
  • Managing teams van stock and/or ensuring ample spare parts and consumables are ready for engineers to complete daily duties. As well as ordering replacement stock with Stores Team.
  • Surveying sites, writing up surveys/as fitted drawings and defining customer prerequisites for power, ducting, access doors, turnstile/pod and cabin positions.
  • Maintaining exemplary standards & building rapport with customers
  • Adherence to Health and Safety and Environmental Regulations
  • Maintaining the teams’ tools and test equipment and ensuring they are properly calibrated.
  • Assisting with development plans for engineers and training requirements
  • Capturing ways of innovating excellence and product development opportunities out in the field and reporting them back to R&D team.

  • Management cover for Installation operations, including scheduling, production of RAMS, SSoW & Lift Plans.
  • Ensuring engineer assets are issued and accounted for.
  • Carrying out site audits and providing constructive feedback and development of engineers for continuous improvement.
  • Report progress of works to Project Manager & Head of Projects.
  • Coordinating team of engineers with correct access plant & equipment required to complete work.
  • In depth trouble shooting, maintenance and repair on designated equipment.
  • Completion of preventative maintenance such as health checks and contractual maintenance agreements.

Key working relationships (internal and external)

 

  • Reporting to Head of Installation
  • Liaising with customers on site and via telephone/email
  • Liaising with other trades on site to ensure installation/Service/Maintenance visits are completed on time and to high standards.
  • Liaise with senior customer management and site management, rapport building and listening to customers needs and adapting to changes.
  • Liaise with Biosite Key account manager where necessary.
  • Work closely with engineers to develop their skills and motivate them to complete work to the highest standard and efficient as possible.
  • Report back to Health and Safety Manager & Project Manager improvements for safe systems of work and best site practices
  • Report back to Quality board on issues and ways to develop products and services

 

 

Person Profile: Essential qualifications, experience, knowledge, and behaviours

 

  • Ability to lead & supervise personnel.
  • Well organised and punctual
  • Excellent Communication Skills both verbal and written
  • Good problem solver
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ethical and trustworthy
  • Always maintain a professional appearance.
  • Competent in computer software packages that enable production of surveys/drawings and as fitted documents.
  • Experience of engaging with customers in a high-pressured environment
  • 5 years’ experience in security service/installation of access control or similar ELV/SELV cabling role.
  • Valid Driver's Licence is essential.
  • Valid ECS/CSCS Card
  • SSSTS

 

 

Desirable

 

  • Strong construction industry knowledge
  • Computer literacy and understanding of PC hardware
  • A good understanding of electrical wiring and equipment
  • A good understanding of networking and routing
  • IPAF, PASMA and 3-day first aid preferable
  • NVQ Level 3 in Site Supervision
