Role Overview
The Access Devices R&D organization is seeking an experienced R&D Manager & Product Owner to lead embedded firmware development for our access control products – primarily electromechanical locks and safes.
The role is responsible for ensuring firmware capabilities deliver clear customer and business value while meeting high standards for security, quality, and long‑term platform sustainability across the Access Devices portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Product Ownership
- Own and continuously evolve the firmware product roadmap for locks and safes, ensuring alignment with product strategy, customer needs, and business priorities.
- Translate customer requirements, regulatory needs, and stakeholder input into well‑defined features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Lead backlog prioritization across firmware initiatives, balancing customer value, security, platform consistency, risk, and time‑to‑market.
- Drive the evolution of shared firmware platforms and common capabilities to improve reuse, maintainability, and architectural consistency.
- Ensure firmware supports product performance, certification needs, and lifecycle requirements across access control devices.
R&D Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of embedded firmware engineers within Access Devices R&D, ensuring clear priorities, high engagement, and predictable delivery.
- Provide technical leadership to ensure firmware architecture, design, and implementation are secure, robust, and aligned with platform strategy.
- Oversee firmware development from concept through release, ensuring high quality, reliability, and security in delivered solutions.
- Promote best practices in secure embedded development, automated testing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with other teams within Hardware, System SW, Cybersecurity, Manufacturing, and other functions to support successful product delivery.
- Contribute to Access Devices technology planning, particularly in areas related to embedded firmware platforms and security.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related engineering field.
- 7+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, including responsibility for product scope, prioritization, or roadmap ownership.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams in a product‑driven environment.
- Strong technical background in embedded C/C++, RTOS, and secure embedded systems.
- Experience with access control, security products, or IoT devices is an advantage.
- Strong communication, prioritization, and stakeholder‑management skills
