Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary:

Senior Mechanical Engineering position within the Product Development department. Position will involve the development of new products from concept through production and sustaining engineering. The position will work with functions across the entire company including other product design engineers, manufacturing, and product management. Perform responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies and procedures.


Essential Functions:

  • Design and manage development of new products from conception through production and sustaining engineering.
  • Detailed engineering design and documentation using SolidWorks and related applications including PDM.
  • Interaction with manufacturing, tooling, prototyping, and purchasing resources both internal and external.
  • Perform feasibility and quality studies with existing products to reduce costs and increase performance.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, VA/VE, and Lean initiatives.
  • Continuous improvement of processes to meet company business objectives.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Position requires the ability to work in a highly focused product development team environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills to all levels of the organization are required. Excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Minimum 5 years product design experience. Security hardware experience a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated project management experience.
  • BS Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • Proven SolidWorks CAD experience required (CSWP certification desired). PDM and/or Siemens Teamcenter PDM experience preferred.
  • Experience with small part design/manufacture that are produced by screw machine, stamping, powdered metal, cast, and other conventional machining methods.
  • Experience with miniaturization and integration of electronic components, motors, actuators, sensors, into mechanical designs.
  • Experience with patent development.
  • Experience with testing methods and industry testing standards.
  • Experience with plastics design or industrial design a plus.
  • Experience with lean production principles and how to apply these values in the product development process.
  • FMEA, DFMA background a plus.

  • Ability to remain seated for long periods while working on a computer screen and/or documentation in paper format, etc.
  • Must have manual dexterity to operate computer keyboard and standard office equipment.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel as necessary for the position described.
