Position Summary:

The Product Engineering team is responsible for developing new security products in a fast-paced, lean development environment. The Mechanical Engineering role is involved in the development of new mechanical and electro-mechanical high-security lock products from concept through production. There is also an emphasis towards increasing performance and reducing costs through ongoing sustaining engineering activities. The position will interact with functions across the entire company including other product engineers, manufacturing, product management, and purchasing. This person should be a self-starter with a strong technical background and a desire for continuous learning.

What you will do:

• Development of new products from idea conception through production.
• Perform feasibility and quality studies with existing products to reduce costs and increase performance.
• Collaboration with manufacturing, tooling, prototyping, and purchasing resources both internal and external.
• Detailed engineering design and documentation using SolidWorks and related applications including PDM.
• Participate in design reviews, VA/VE, and Lean initiatives to achieve high-quality solutions.
• Continuous improvement of processes to meet company business objectives.
• Perform responsibilities in accordance with all company standards, policies, and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Basic Qualifications:

• BS Mechanical Engineering degree or related field.
• Minimum 10 years product design experience.
• Detail oriented individual with excellent organizational and planning skills.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Experience with small complex mechanisms and applications, including miniaturization and integration of electronic components, motors, actuators, and sensors into mechanical designs.
• Experience with small part design/manufacture that are produced by screw machine, stamping, powdered metal, MIM, casting, and other methods.
• Security hardware experience a plus.
• Knowledge and application experience with plastics design or industrial design is a plus.
• Position requires the ability to work in a highly focused product development team environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills to all levels of the organization are required.
• Demonstrated project management experience.
• SolidWorks CAD and PDM experience. CSWP or CSWE certification desired and Siemens Teamcenter PDM experience preferred. CAD admin experience is a plus.
• Experience with testing methods and industry testing standards.
• Experience with patent development.
• Experience with lean production principles and how to apply those values in the product development process.
