Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000 DOE

Position Summary

The Senior Buyer, in conjunction with the purchasing team, is responsible for the design and execution of the company’s purchasing strategy to ensure quality, cost, delivery and risk management objectives are met. This includes commodity management, supplier management, sourcing, cost negotiating, and inventory and transportation costs optimization. The Senior Buyer is responsible for the procurement and management of a wide variety of raw materials, components, equipment, supplies, and services, in addition to supporting internal and external customers in the areas of new product development and process improvement.

Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities

 

  • Support the purchasing team in the design and execution of the company’s purchasing strategy.
  • Communicate to internal departments accurate ship dates and quantities.
  • Lead and execute the sourcing strategy for assigned commodities, value-add parts and assemblies, tooling, equipment, and MRO supplies
  • Incorporate risk management analysis and actions into the commodity strategy
  • Negotiate service levels for purchased products (pricing, payment terms, quality levels, and delivery terms)
  • Oversee the process for direct-to-customer shipments, including invoicing and tracking
  • Manage supplier relationships – including all quality, cost and delivery performance.
  • Organize and facilitate routine meetings with supplier.
  • Process vendor returns and take the lead on obtaining supplier corrective actions
  • Pursue material cost reduction opportunities by researching and recommending new materials, processes, and specifications
  • Work with engineering, sales/marketing, manufacturing and material planning to ensure the success of NPD and VA/VE projects
  • Acquire and maintain knowledge of key commodities including trends in new technology, processes and low cost sourcing
  • Leverage ERP/MRP system to streamline work processes and work closely with the plant buyer/planners to ensure continuity of supply
  • Use SOP forecast and ERP/MRP system to negotiate and create blanket orders/contracts
  • Review forecast data vs. actual sales to recommend changes to demand planning
  • Identify any potential bottlenecks in supply and communicate to internal departments
  • Help control transportation costs by limiting air/expedited freight

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Experience with the design and execution of commodity strategies
  • Global sourcing experience
  • Strong negotiating and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of purchasing practices, demonstrated experience with tactical and strategic purchasing
  • Proficiency with ERP / MRP systems
  • Knowledge and experience in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and project management
  • Strong communications skills (written, verbal)
  • Ability to read and understand part drawings (blue prints) and specifications
  • Ability to support and lead cross-functional project teams.

 

Educational & Certification Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business or Engineering
  • 7 plus years’ experience in purchasing/commodity management in a high SKU manufacturing environment
  • Experience sourcing from both domestic and international suppliers
  • ISM certification is preferred
