Application Engineer

Position Summary
This position will serve as a Technical Engineering representative for our products to our customers. The Application Engineer will be responsible for developing solutions and ensuring timely response in support of Sales and Engineering organizations including product application and product design. The position will require comprehensive understanding of our products, manufacturing processes and customer’s requirements. Technical skills required are 3D CAD expertise, knowledge of mechanical devices, manufacturing process and assembly.
Essential Job Functions
- Define application direction and engineering solutions for customer projects using CAD (SolidWorks) and design calculations (Excel). Create and manipulate complex spreadsheets (VBA a Plus)
- Serve as technical liaison between our company and customers as it pertains to applications of our products.
- Develop application procedures and application tools for new products
- Design product solutions to meet customer requirements
- Work with Sales, Engineering and customers to define project scope
- Provide same-day response to customer technical inquiries
- Provide technical guidance & product support to Customer Service organization
- Provide project status updates for Sales and Engineering managers
- Request and perform mechanical testing and evaluation of products
- Document application reports and procedures
- Travel as required for customer introductions, start-ups, servicing issues and industry events
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Product application and design experience focused on mechanically based products with a documented track record of success.
- Minimum of 2 years is required
- An understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC, metal stamping, spring winding and plastic molding. Prior Product Design Experience is a plus
- Proficient with hand tools and measurement devices such as: drills, wrenches, screwdrivers, saws, micrometers and calipers.
- Prior experience with Customer management
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work with multiple non-technical employee groups (sales, purchasing, customer service…)
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written) across a broad network of people (customers, management, peers, support staff)
- Effective time management skills; support multiple projects concurrently
- Limited travel within North America
- Proficient in English language
Software Skills
- Minimum 1-3 year of 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks)
- Proficient in use of Excel required; knowledge of VBA is preferred
- Proficient in use of MS Office Suite
Educational & Certification
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
