We are currently looking for a full-time Product Development Engineer on our Access IS BU team to be part of our successful journey.
The qualified candidate will be helping to design and develop new products for HID Global’s Access IS BU, including concept generation, 3D CAD design using Siemens Solid Edge, rapid prototyping, component and material selection, testing, 2D technical drawing, engineering for mass production and efficient assembly.
The products developed by HID Global’s Access IS BU serve the Identity & Security, Mass Transit and Airport & Airline market sectors. Typical products include identity document readers, validators, ticket readers, RFID, NFC, QR code readers and contactless payment devices.

Essential Duties
- Product design and development, concept generation, jig design.
- 3D CAD design using Siemens Solid Edge.
- Designing parts for rapid prototyping.
- Suitable material and component selection.
- 2D technical drawing and checking.
- Design development to be suitable for mass production and assembly.
- BOM generation and checking.
- Generate engineering change notifications following company best practices.
- Checks using our ERP system, Oracle, Agile.
- Updates to existing products and parts.
- Product and component verification.
Primary Duties
- Working with cross-functional teams (e.g., project management, hardware, marketing, manufacturing, quality).
- To document development processes and maintaining records in line with our quality system.
- Build and evaluate prototypes to verify suitability/ that the design is fit for purpose.
- Be flexible to be able to update and adapt designs based on test performance data.
- Follow an agreed product design specification and provide deliverables as part of the project timeline.
- Stay current with emerging processes, technologies and materials.
Essential Qualifications
- Availability to work full time (hybrid, 2-3 days in the office per week).
- Very good English, both written and spoken.
- Previous experience with 3D CAD software, e.g. Solid Edge, Solid Works, NX.
- Have a mechanical or product design qualification. For example, Product Design, Design Engineering, Mechanical Design, BSc, BEng, BA, MSc etc.
- Experience of modern product design, including processes such as injection moulding, rapid prototyping.
- Experience of designing products and assemblies comprising of electronics, wiring looms, machined/ stamped metal components, gaskets, glass components.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Teams.
- Keen interest in problem solving and coming up with creative solutions.
- A motivated, intuitive and analytical team player.
- Have at least 3 years’ work placement or work experience in a similar role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Solid Edge experience.
- Previous demonstratable work experience and skills.
- Keen interest in technology and design.
Work Requirements
- Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
- Travel and fieldwork, including international travel, may be required. Therefore, the employee must possess or be able to acquire a valid passport.
- You must be legally eligible to work in the country in which you are hired.
