As our Staff Mechanical Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by:
- Coming up with new designs, research alternative options and perform modeling and experiments to determine potential design feasibility or application
- Creating engineering drawings, test plans, and technical reports
- Exploring new and existing materials and methods to solve design challenges
- Creating and implementing suitable tests to verify designs meet mechanical requirements
- Defining design parameters, limits and dealing with constraints such as dimensions, heat dissipation, power consumption, mechanical forces, etc.
- Collaborating with vendors to produce mechanical prototypes, components and assemblies and champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities
- Briefing, supervising and verifying 3rd party contractors including test and certification labs
- Contributing to creation and release of Product Requirements, Design Specifications, and Design Descriptions for assigned designs, applicable standards and procedures in accordance with marketing, manufacturing and customer expectations
- Creating and maintaining internal product documentation, Bills of Material (BOM) and component information in Agile PLM system
- Evaluating product non-conformances and recommend design modifications
- Working hands-on in the lab to analyze, develop or optimize the product
Your Experience and Background include:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent technical Degree
- 5+ years related engineering experience
- High degree of comfort with ambiguity in early-phase investigative projects
- Mechanical design experience with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred)
- Thorough understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles
- Experience in mechanical design of plastic parts produced by technology of injection molding
- Ability design electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical assemblies
- Experience collaborating with external contractors to create parts and prototypes
- Self-starter capable of independent work and managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision
- Experience working with cross functional teams
- Hands-on with the usual mechanical tools and working with them in a lab or workshop
- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language verbally and in writing
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.
