We are looking for an experienced Staff Cloud Engineer to join our excellent PKIasS engineering team based out of Prague, Czech Republic with Scrum Master and Product Owner and architect in US. The ideal applicant will be an independent thinker and proactive problem-solvers, unafraid of complex technical challenges. The team is responsible for extending and maintaining the existing product, a private/public CA specialized in issuing high volume machine certificates. The expansion plans are both vertical and horizontal (geographic) and both aspects require a high degree of AWS/Cloud competence. The best candidate is the one that combines best practices and engineering excellence together with continuous learning and improvement. At the same time, such a person must be able to accept that part of the job is making sure existing infrastructure is maintained. This requires a passion for automating things as a default approach to any task.

As our Staff Software Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by: 

 

Contribute to the architecture, design, and development of new product features, components, workflows, proof of concept prototypes, interfaces. Work on repaying technical debt and making sure our products are the best they can be

Take part in Scaled Agile software development process performing tasks including coding and testing modules, maintaining, and tuning applications and related components

Participate in troubleshooting/task identification, work effort estimates, and work schedules for development and maintenance activities

Ensure that all tasks are performed in accordance with specific internal procedures and standards, as well as industry’s best practices

Ensure and demonstrate code quality through comprehensive and effective unit testing coverage

Take responsibility for complex cloud infrastructure, which always needs to be checked and innovated as cloud providers also continuously innovate

 

Your Experience and Background include:  

           

Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent (master's degree preferred). Candidates with an equivalent education or relevant work experience may also be considered

5+ years of development experience in backend systems

Experience in working with Docker and deployment and delivery of complex solutions within cloud services

Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and React is a big plus

Respect for Computer Science fundamentals, design patterns, and development best practices

Acceptance of Agile Methodology and Principles is necessary

Applicant must be comfortable communicating both with developers and management

High level of personal accountability, as evidenced by their commitment, resilience, ownership, and mindset toward continuous learning

Individual engineers are expected to work end-end. High level task is analyzed into functional specifications, which is then discussed and implemented usually by the same engineer. This is functionally different from top-down engineering teams

Continuous improvement - must be constantly growing one’s craft, learning new tools and techniques, and sharing these within and among teams

Understand that their role in the organization is broader than the details included in this job description

Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to work with diverse personality types

Kubernetes and docker are a major deciding factor

Current deployment is in AWS, but accomplished experts in other platforms will also be considered as we consider cloud providers homomorphic

Basics of software engineering such as Git, unit testing, SQL fundamentals and rest api are taken for granted
