Join our firmware engineering team and help build biometric devices that combine embedded Linux, image processing, computer vision, optics, and camera-system integration. As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will solve practical imaging challenges and contribute to products used for trusted identity verification in real-world environments.

The primary focus is image processing and software around camera systems. You may work across image-sensor integration, camera drivers, image and video pipelines, image-quality analysis, computer vision, diagnostics, and performance optimization on embedded Linux. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to adjacent embedded Linux areas as products and projects evolve.

We are particularly interested in candidates with image-processing or camera-system experience. However, strong engineers from related technical backgrounds who are eager to grow in this area are also encouraged to apply. Curiosity and the ability to grow across adjacent areas are important.

As our Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you’ll support HID’s success by: 

• Design, develop, test, and maintain C/C++ software for embedded Linux camera and biometric products
• Develop and integrate image-processing|, camera, video-streaming, and related embedded Linux functionality
• Evaluate and improve image quality, system performance, reliability, and maintainability
• Investigate complex problems across sensors, optics, drivers, pipelines, algorithms, and applications
• Collaborate with firmware, hardware, optics, biometrics, quality, manufacturing, and external development teams, while contributing to reviews and technical documentation

Primary Duties

• Develop and integrate image-processing algorithms, image sensors, camera-control services, camera drivers, illumination control, and image and video pipelines
• Work with technologies such as V4L2, GStreamer, OpenCV, RAW/RGB/YUV pipelines, hardware video codecs, and vendor camera toolchains
• Analyze and tune image quality, including exposure, white balance, noise, color, sharpness, artifacts, and capture behavior under varied conditions
• Optimize latency, bandwidth, CPU, memory, and end-to-end pipeline performance, and integrate computer-vision or biometric components where required
• Create diagnostics, logging, test applications, and Python-based tools or automation to understand and improve imaging behavior
• Contribute where useful to related embedded Linux topics such as system services, build integration, profiling, or hardware bring-up, with support from specialists in those areas 

Your Experience and Background include:  

• At least five years of professional embedded C/C++ software development experience, or three years with a relevant Master's degree
• Hands-on experience developing and debugging C/C++ software on embedded Linux
• Strong experience in at least one relevant area, such as image processing, camera systems, computer vision, embedded Linux camera and video frameworks, or embedded software. Image-processing or camera-system experience is particularly valuable
• Solid understanding of software design, multithreading, memory management, debugging, and performance analysis
• Experience with Git, code review, automated builds, and software testing practices
• Ability to work independently, lead technical topics, and communicate effectively across disciplines
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• Experience with image-quality analysis, camera configuration, or image-pipeline tuning
• Experience with camera drivers, V4L2, GStreamer, OpenCV, hardware video codecs, or comparable camera, image-processing, and video frameworks or toolchains
• Experience deploying or optimizing computer-vision, AI, or biometric inference on embedded devices
• Familiarity with embedded Linux build systems, camera sensor bring-up, Python, or laboratory debugging tools
• Experience with biometric imaging, face recognition, presentation attack detection, or related imaging applications
