As our Engineering Manager, you’ll support HID’s success by:
- Providing direct people management for people across several engineering teams, including regular 1:1s, coaching, performance feedback, and development planning
- Supporting the onboarding, growth, and long-term progression of junior engineers, including delegation of work, technical guidance, and expectation setting
- Ensuring reliable delivery of team commitments by translating product and technical goals into actionable plans and priorities
- Acting as a technical escalation point for the team, reviewing designs, performing code review, and approaches to ensure quality, maintainability, and alignment with architecture
- Collaborating closely with product management, architects, QA, and other engineering functions to ensure smooth execution and cross-team alignment
- Participating in Scaled Agile software development processes, including planning, estimation, retrospectives, and continuous improvement activities
- Identifying delivery, quality, or team health risks early and address them pragmatically, with a bias toward simple, effective solutions
- Ensuring that engineering work follows internal procedures, security requirements, and industry best practices appropriate for security critical systems
- Contributing to hiring activities, including interviewing and candidate evaluation, with a strong focus on long-term team quality
Your Experience and Background include:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent (master’s degree preferred). Candidates with an equivalent education plus relevant work experience may also be considered
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least some experience in technical leadership or mentoring capacity
- Prior experience as a team leader, tech lead, or informal people manager is strongly preferred
- Proven ability to learn new domains and technologies quickly, and to guide others through that learning
- Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, system design, and engineering best practices
- Must be comfortable communicating with engineers, Product Owners, and stakeholders in English
- Strong sense of personal accountability and ownership for team outcomes, quality, and delivery
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide less experienced engineers through technical and professional growth
- Ability to balance people leadership with technical oversight, without micromanagement
- Comfortable making pragmatic decisions in ambiguous environments typical of complex, long-lived systems
- Understand that the role extends beyond the details included in this job description and requires situational judgment
- Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to work with diverse personality types and experience levels
- Solid software engineering background, with the ability to review code, designs, and architectural decisions across backend and frontend components as needed
- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.
- Working knowledge of Czech or Slovak language is an advantage, but not a must
