What you will be doing:
ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in access solutions, is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Vice President, Product and Platform Technology to help define and lead the unified technical direction across our growing Building Technology Solutions subgroup. This individual will partner closely with business development, product, engineering, security, and customer success to shape a cohesive, scalable technology strategy spanning multiple software platforms, including Openings Studio, PRO‑TECH, SimpleK, SiteOwl and other emerging solutions.
The Vice President, Product and Platform Technology will be responsible for developing architectural standards, driving modernization initiatives, and enabling shared capabilities that strengthen the entire software portfolio. This position requires a strategic thinker, an accomplished technical leader, and a collaborative partner who can operate effectively in a complex, multi-division environment.
This role is based in Phoenix, Arizona or Austin, Texas.
Key areas you will contribute to the role include:
- Define and own the unified technology vision for the Building Technology Solutions Subgroup, ensuring alignment with business objectives, product roadmaps, and global technology strategy.
- Establish and maintain architecture standards, patterns, and best practices for cloud services, web/mobile applications, integration frameworks, security, and DevOps.
- Lead cross-product architectural planning, identifying and implementing shared components, reusable services, and platform-level capabilities to reduce redundancy and accelerate delivery.
- Drive modernization of legacy software systems, advancing cloud-native approaches, modern web technologies, and scalable data architectures.
- Partner with Product Owners, Engineering and IT leaders to translate long-term strategy into practical technical roadmaps and architectural runways.
- Serve as a technical advisor to senior leadership, providing insights, risks, trade-offs, and solution recommendations for strategic initiatives.
- Oversee and facilitate architecture reviews, solution blueprinting, and cross-team technical design sessions.
- Champion engineering excellence through improved tooling, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with product security teams to ensure all platforms meet security, privacy, and compliance obligations.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, evaluating appropriateness and value to ASSA ABLOY’s software solution suite.
- Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and customer-centered technology development.

What we are looking for:
You are a strategic thinker, an accomplished technical leader, and a collaborative partner who can operate effectively in a complex, multi-division environment.
- You have excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- You have experience in security technology, building management systems, IoT, physical access control, or related other industries.
- You have a background in product organizations with multiple software lines or change and technology management initiatives.
- You have experience with AI/ML platforms or data engineering technologies.
- You are detail-oriented, organized, and known for follow-up habits.
- You're a multi-tasker who can manage time and projects proficiently.
- Ability to travel (up to 40%) domestically and internationally.
- You can lift/carry up to 50 lbs. of sample and display material for presentations.
Education and/or experience:
- Your background includes a Bachelor’s degree (preference for specialization in computer science, software engineering, or similar). Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15+ years of professional experience in software engineering and architecture, with at least 3 – 5 years in a senior or enterprise-level architectural role.
- Demonstrated success designing and delivering distributed systems, cloud applications, and large-scale digital platforms.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate across multiple product and engineering organizations, including without direct authority.
- Strong understanding of cloud environments (AWS/Azure/Google, etc.), modern web technologies, API-first design, microservices, and event-driven systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
Organizational relationships:
The Vice President, Product and Platform Technology will report to the President, Building Technology Solutions.
Special considerations:
This position is based in Phoenix, AZ or Austin, TX. This role interfaces with teams distributed across multiple geographies and functions, requiring strong communication and organizational skills. Periodic travel to divisions, customer sites, events, and ASSA ABLOY offices should be expected, with domestic or international travel up to 40%.
