Field Applications Engineer
Leads mechanical design efforts on cross functional project team. Oversees a variety of project engineering and production support tasks. Uses a working knowledge of design engineering fundamentals, SolidWorks MCAD and lean methods to optimize the design process to bring innovative products to market.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:
- Design, prototype, test, and support the on-going production of electromechanical access control products.
- Apply FEA analysis to validate designs prior to prototyping.
- Work independently and with cross functional teams to provide design solutions that address expressed and implied (through industry knowledge) product requirements.
- Visualize and communicate solutions through design and prototyping.
- Prepare formal reports on product status and testing results for senior staff.
- Apply appropriate tolerances for parts within assemblies to ensure it is producible and provides for a reliable, interchangeable assembly.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to design challenges while being aware of the implications of cost, schedule and manufacturability of the product.
- Maintain an awareness of changes in the industry and in the development of components that may assist future design activities.
- Apply basic, industry drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerance methods (e.g. ASME Y14.5).
- Possess knowledge of electrical and electronics products, including Ohm's Law, Voltage, Current, and a basic understanding of power supply circuitry.
- Have basic electronic skills, such as reading schematics and PCB layouts, using a multi-meter and scope, and troubleshooting circuit boards. SolidWorks Electrical capability is required.

QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B. S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent) from four-year college or university; and previous related experience and/or training.
- Strong technical knowledge and proficiency in SolidWorks Mechanical and Electrical.
Computer Skills
- Must have working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet, e-mail and internet software. Must be proficient in SolidWorks Mechanical and SolidWorks Electrical.
