Engineering Manager, Electro-magnets & Accessories

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Lead and work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to shape the future of access control through innovative electro-magnetic other electro-mechanical accessory device solutions. You will own the complete product lifecycle for this product group, from concept development to production and support, ensuring exceptional quality, market leadership, and seamless integration with existing access control systems.

  • Electro-magnetic locks and door strikes
  • Accessory / complementary electro-mechanical access control hardware

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Drive Innovation: Foster a collaborative environment where design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and other technical specialists come together to develop and implement cutting-edge solutions for the product category.

 

  • Lead Product Development: Spearhead the design and sustaining processes for new and existing electro-magnetic and accessory devices throughout the product group lifecycle, ensuring they meet stringent performance, quality, and security standards, while exceeding customer expectations. Manage a variety of development tools and systems and processes such as test management systems, CI/CD DevOps, and version control.  Guide engineers through failure root cause analysis and implementation of design improvements.

 

  • Customer Focus: Champion a customer-centric approach to product development and manufacturing. Collaborate with Product Management and Senior Department leaders to guarantee engineering efforts align perfectly with customer needs and market demands.

 

  • Project Management: Using Agile principals, manage project timelines and budgets, keeping the engineering team on track and within budget constraints.

 

  • Technical Documentation:  Oversee & ensure work quality in the creation and maintenance of product group documentation, including schematics, CAD models, and manufacturing instructions.

 

  • Regulatory Compliance:  Take ownership of regulatory management and certification for the product group, overseeing the preparation and maintenance of regulatory files and documentation.

 

  • Testing and Standards:  Coordinate testing activities with external & internal laboratories and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations is met.

 

  • Future-Proofing:  Stay abreast of changes in technology, regulatory landscape, and industry standards, and proactively updating product designs and processes to maintain compliance and remain innovative.
  • Safety Culture:  Promote and uphold a strong safety culture in the workplace. Observe established safety regulations and procedures.
  • Quality Commitment:  Assist the organization with establishing practices that align with ISO 9001 & 14001 requirements.
  • Other duties, as required, such as communication with and travel to customers, suppliers, trade shows and training sites.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Directly supervises employees in the Engineering department.  Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and solving problems.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1.  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or related field from four-year college or technical school required, AND
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, or related,
    AND 2+ years of direct or indirect Leadership experience,
    especially leading teams of Engineers.
  • Experience in the Access Control industry is a plus.

 

2.  LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret technical industry documents such as regulatory requirements, contracts, procedures, and government requirements. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to suppliers, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read, to write, to communicate, and understand the English language.

 

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Solidworks or other CAD software.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, files, and procedures, including BHMA, UL, FCC, CSFM, CE, BIS, NOM, UKCA, ROHS, RCM.
  • Experience in PCB hardware and software design and support is preferred.
