POSITION SUMMARY:  Applies principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals. Develops, designs, assembles and tests electro-mechanical systems, components and equipment. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Work as a member of a product-focused team to support all aspects of the product life cycle for the product group, including new product and feature development, industrialization and manufacturing support, and sustaining engineering activities.

 

  • Execute assigned electrical engineering activities from conceptual design through system fabrication, testing and the transition to production.

 

  • Propose solutions, prove concepts, evaluate new technologies and design trade-offs. Create, and develop analog and digital systems with an emphasis on electromechanical designs and power management; execute design testing, including: reliability analysis, EMI/RFI testing, circuit simulations, bread boarding.

 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in electronics; including digital and analog Printed Circuit Board layout, construction techniques and PCB assembly.

 

  • Work closely with mechanical engineers to develop electromechanical products.

 

  • Directs activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.

 

  • Provide design solutions that address expressed and implied (through industry knowledge) product requirements.  Work closely with other disciplines and share innovative ideas with engineering design team.

 

  • Formally document and report product status and testing results in a timely fashion.

 

  • Apply fundamental engineering principles to design challenges while being aware of the implications of cost, schedule and manufacturability of the product.

 

  • Maintain an awareness of changes in the industry and in the development of components that may assist future design activities.

 

  • Travel (up to 25%) may be required.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

 

Qualifications:

Relies on a minimum of five to eight years of electrical design experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.   Experience with designing embedded systems a plus.

 

Strong electronic trouble shooting and problem solving skills, experience in electronic packaging and PCB design. Hands-on experience with circuit simulation and modeling software (PSpice & Mathcad). Experience with Altium (preferred) or Orcad is required.

 

Mechanical aptitude is required and experience with Solidworks is considered a plus.

 

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineer with 4 to 6 years of related experience and/or training required.

 

Experience with designing embedded systems and ability to write C/C++ and code for PIC microcontrollers is preferred.
