Commodity Manager

If so, ASSA ABLOY is the place for you!  ASSA ABLOY Electro Mechanical Solutions (EMS) division, located in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Category Manager. This role reports to the Director of Supply Chain for EMS.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

In this strategic role, you will work closely within the supply chain team as well as with engineering and manufacturing teams to coordinate sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing within the applicable category to satisfy new product development and manufacturing schedules and cost targets.  You will execute the group procurement strategies to realize business objectives. Some of the responsibilities you can expect to assume are:

  • Identify, select, qualify, and form strategic partnerships with suppliers based on product development strategies and engineering | manufacturing needs within framework of ASSA ABLOY strategic direction.
  • Evaluate suppliers' capabilities with regard to quality, technology, service, cost competitiveness, capacity, financial strengths, flexibility, and commitment.
  • Negotiate the best price and terms as well as ongoing expectations. Execute master purchase agreements.
  • Develop sourcing and overall supply chain strategies within your category.
  • Manage sourcing projects as project leader, work closely with engineering and manufacturing to ensure seamless project implementation.
  • Work upstream on product development programs pending requirements and align with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales in order to ensure sourcing is given adequate cycle time to procure material.
  • Work closely with the procurement team on cost, source information, lead-time, and other appropriate information to the production environment.
  • Facilitate and manage any supplier performance (i.e. cost, quality, delivery, customer service).
  • Work with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and Customers as well as suppliers on identified Value Engineering initiatives.
  • Conform with the organizations ISO 9001 & 14001 requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for

To succeed in this role we believe you need a minimum of 5 years of experience using skills as a seasoned, experienced professional in a commodity management and/or program/project management role with an emphasis in supply chain management. Strong negotiation skills with a collaborative approach is necessary.

A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position, preferably in Supply Chain Management or Engineering.

In depth knowledge of relevant processes, particularly in the area of International Logistics and Trade, Corrugate, and Aluminum Extrusions.

To succeed in this role you must be a person with good interpersonal and social skills, with the ability to problem solve collaboratively across functional groups.   An ideal candidate will be an analytical individual who has the ability to be strategic and possess the ability to drive short-term operational objectives.
