What would you do as our Technician (Hardware Development)
As our Technician (Hardware Development), for the Global solutions division of ASSA ABLOY, you will provide advanced technical and quality support for our products across electronics, mechanical and firmware – down to component and code level. Reporting to the Hardware Development Manager, the role involves managing support requests, rejects and returns escalated to R&D for root cause analysis using a variety of electronic test, measurement and inspection equipment, and debugging tools. The role will interact with the other departments within R&D and the business as a whole - including supporting our Production and Quality teams with advanced technical support and issue investigations. The role will also require interaction with suppliers and occasionally assist field support technicians with escalated customer issues. You will be working within the Hardware Development team and directly alongside the design engineers responsible for product development. This is an office-based role at our site in Olney, Buckinghamshire.
You would also:
• Manage and prioritise support requests escalated to the Hardware Team
• Provide support interface between R&D and the rest of the business to assist with Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical and Firmware related issues
• Fault-find to root cause / component level faulty parts and products
• Build, rework and repair Printed Circuit Assemblies including surface-mounted components
• Devise tests and experiments to test prototypes and troubleshoot engineering and maintain our engineering lab including supporting equipment calibration schedules
The skills and experience you need
We are looking for someone who has:
• HNC or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or related Engineering discipline
• Ability to use Electronic Test Equipment such as Oscilloscopes and Multi-meters
• Ability to read and interpret Schematic Diagrams and PCB layouts
• Ability to read and interpret Engineering Drawings as well as ability to use measurement and inspection equipment
• Hands-on engineering skills (soldering, wiring, mechanical)
It would be an advantage if you have experience with Atlassian Confluence/Jira as well as experience with programming, ideally embedded firmware in C.
