Your Role in Keeping the Future in Safe Hands…

 

We are looking for a Production Engineer to join the Hardware Development R&D Team at Traka.

The purpose of this role is to provide Mechanical Engineering support for product development and issues escalated to the R&D team.

Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, the role requires applying mechanical engineering skills and expertise to solve complex problems ranging from manufacturing issues to evaluating new product developments.

The role will interact with the other departments within the business as a whole - including supporting our Production and Quality teams with advanced technical support and issue investigations. The role will also require interaction with suppliers and occasionally assist field support technicians with escalated customer issues.

This role will also support the team by helping run quality assurance tests such as life-cycle and durability testing of components and product testing.

You will be working within the Hardware Development Team and directly alongside the design engineers responsible for product development. This is an office-based role at our site in Olney, Buckinghamshire.

  

What you will do…

 

  • Provide support and rapid response for all mechanical engineering issues escalated to the team. This will include ‘hands on’ support, telephone & email support to all areas of the business.
  • Maintain and provide triage for Engineering Change Requests.
  • Maintain and generate build instructions and documentation using 3D CAD program (Autodesk Inventor).
  • Provide support to the Quality team with investigations and testing related to design issues.
  • Assist with prototype build of pre-production products including production engineering review of new products and major product changes.
  • Ensure that new products are designed to comply with relevant safety standards
  • Facilitate life cycle testing of new products including design of test fixtures and provide detailed reports of results.
  • Generate engineering drawings and modify existing drawings using 3D CAD program.
  • Design of Jigs and Fixtures to facilitate production processes.
  • Provide support for on-boarding overseas manufacture of existing products including generating design packs and sample approval.
  • Carry out peer review on mechanical engineering drawings and supporting documentation for the Mechanical design team.
  • Support VAVE process to assist with design-level cost reduction initiatives for our products
  • Facilitate good working relationships between the R&D Design Team and Operations Teams with a focus on right first time and continuous improvement

 

Any other duties required to assist in supporting the achievement of the Company objectives.

 

What we expect of you…

 

  • Minimum of a HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering is essential having completed an engineering/technical apprenticeship being an advantage
  • Experience using 3D CAD program
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical manufacturing processes (sheet metal fabrication, extrusions, casting, moulding, machining).
  • Broad background in electro-mechanical product development, manufacture and testing procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electro/mechanical technical drawings.
  • Strong innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at any one time.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Inquisitive mind and keen eye for detail
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.)

Additional useful skills…

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault
  • Experience with Atlassian Confluence / Jira
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams
