Product Design Engineer

     

 

ASSA ABLOY is a global leader in access solutions, helping billions of people move safely through their world every day. We are currently seeking a Product Design Engineer to join our Product Development team in Melbourne.

In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of mechanical or electromechanical products from concept through to production and sales release. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, Production and Quality teams to ensure products are robust, manufacturable and meet customer needs.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Contribute to the design and development of new products from concept through to production release
  • Create and modify 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software
  • Conduct engineering analysis including dimensional analysis, tolerance checks and tolerance stack calculations
  • Develop and test prototype components to support product validation and performance improvements
  • Identify design risks and contribute to risk mitigation strategies during development
  • Participate in design reviews throughout product development gateway stages
  • Work with production and quality teams to ensure designs incorporate design-for-manufacture principles
  • Liaise with suppliers regarding component design, specifications and prototype manufacturing
  • Support product testing, root cause investigations and continuous product improvement
  • Contribute to engineering documentation, technical reports and product change processes

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring experience working in a product development environment, ideally designing mechanical or electromechanical products from concept through to production.

You will also have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Around 5–8+ years’ experience in product design or product development engineering
  • Strong 3D modelling and drafting skills using SolidWorks or similar CAD software
  • Experience performing engineering analysis such as tolerance stack calculations
  • Exposure to product testing, root cause analysis and risk management tools such as DRBFM or similar
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including production and quality
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills
