Staff Accountant

The Manufacturing Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the manufacturing facility by performing cost accounting, inventory reconciliation, financial reporting, and analysis. This role partners closely with operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to ensure accurate manufacturing financials, strong internal controls, and timely month-end closing activities. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, analytical, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
This position sits on-site in Berlin, CT Monday-Friday.
What you will be doing:
Cost & Inventory Accounting
- Maintain and reconcile inventory sub-ledgers, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on manufacturing variances (material, labor, overhead).
- Assist in standard cost updates, cost roll-ups, and annual cost setting.
- Participate in cycle counts and periodic physical inventory processes.
- Review BOMs and routing changes to ensure accurate costing.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis.
- Assist with month-end closing activities, including factory expense accruals.
- Generate and distribute manufacturing financial reports with commentary.
- Support financial audits by providing analysis and documentation as requested.
Operational Support & Analysis
- Partner with plant management to analyze production results and identify cost improvement opportunities.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production, inventory, scrap, and cost efficiency.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing operations.
- Participate in cross-functional projects to improve processes, controls, and systems.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, GAAP, and internal control requirements.
- Identify risks and assist in process improvements to strengthen financial accuracy and accountability.
- Support SOX-related documentation and testing, if applicable.
What we are looking for:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 0–3 years of accounting experience; manufacturing or cost accounting experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, data analysis).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- Office and manufacturing floor environment.
- Periodic visits to production areas are required.
- May require extended hours during month-end or special projects.
