As a Product Development Engineer on our Exits Division, you will be responsible for designing innovative product improvements, driving cost reduction initiatives, developing new products, and resolving critical product issues. Working alongside a talented team, this role focuses on developing mechanical and electromechanical systems while crafting solutions to address customer needs.

 

This position will require a hybrid onsite work schedule between our New Haven, CT and Berlin, CT offices. 

 

What you will be doing

  • Generate and drive new product ideas, product improvements, and cost reduction initiatives based on market demands.
  • Contribute to DFMA (Design for Manufacturability), FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), and risk assessments to enhance product quality and reliability.
  • Initiate and manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Product Change Proposals (PCPs) to ensure seamless product updates.
  • Design 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks, bringing innovative concepts to life.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to refine product designs and analyze functionality for optimization.
  • Select materials and manufacturing processes with guidance to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Partner with Production Center teams to drive product quality improvements and resolve production challenges.
  • Develop test plans and provide technical support to the Test Lab to validate product performance and compliance

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required.
  • Open to candidates with skillsets ranging from entry-level to mid-level, with a minimum of 1 year of professional work experience (excluding internships).
  • Must have demonstrated hands-on experience with SolidWorks/CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including fits, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas through hand sketches, models, technical drawings, and written or spoken project summaries.
  • Ability to identify issues, quickly develop solutions, and conduct testing to validate results.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with both conceptual understanding and hands-on experience; ability to collaborate effectively on large-scale projects and manage time efficiently. Occasional travel required.
