We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Firmware and Hardware Automation Engineer to join our Access Egress Hardware (AEH) Team. This role is crucial in supporting the development of firmware and hardware required to extend our automated Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) testing capabilities. You will work closely with Firmware Engineers, DevOps Specialists, and Solution Architects to develop cutting-edge solutions that will drive the automation of our testing processes and improve our product development lifecycle. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation in secure access technology.

 

This position will sit onsite in New Haven, CT.

 

What you will be doing 

  • Firmware and Hardware Development: Develop and maintain firmware for test automation, and design hardware solutions to support HiL testing.
  • Sensor and Input Control: Create and implement sensor systems for automated testing, including robot crane and arm controllers.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Implement systems for collecting and streaming serial console output and develop remote debugging capabilities.
  • Automation and Robotics: Design and implement robotic systems for automating physical testing tasks, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with Firmware QA, DevOps, and product teams to identify and prioritize testing needs, providing technical support for automated testing solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and refine testing processes, identifying opportunities for innovation and optimization.

 

What we are looking for

  • Education: Must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in firmware development, hardware design, and test automation, particularly within embedded systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and familiarity with GitLab CI.
  • Embedded Systems Proficiency: Experience with nrf52840 and newer, STM32 boards, nrf5 SDK, Keil HWDK, Renode.io platform, FreeRTOS, or Zephyr RTOS.
  • Automation and Robotics: Strong knowledge of robot control systems and automation tools.
  • Monitoring and Metrics: Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for creating dashboards and tracking metrics, and Robot Framework for testing.
  • Security: Familiarity with CBOR Object Signing and Encryption (COSE).
  • Collaborative Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
