Quality Engineer - Monroe, NC


Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer performs quality and continuous improvement functions in support of total quality management using various tools including LEAN elements, six sigma, theory of constraints, etc. Identifies and removes barriers to continuous improvement initiatives. Establishes quality information systems within ISO standards to access, collect, analyze and distribute results within the organization utilizing quantitative tools to measure, analyze and control processes such as SPC, process and performance capability studies, design of experiments, etc. Supports all aspects of the quality system, including planning\control and improvement, and the application of product and process control methods such as developing control plans, identifying critical control points, developing and validating work instructions, etc.  Makes decisions, takes action, and leads floor Quality resolution within agreed parameters and established precedents. Quality activities cover a variety of products/processes which are controlled by detailed procedures and instructions. Within established parameters, recommends improvements or changes to enhance production quality in a preventive mode. Develops and maintains a sustainable quality management system. 



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Utilize statistical and analytical tools such as run charts, SPC, root cause analysis, etc. to characterize quality problems, identify root cause and recommend corrective actions.  Understands and adheres to ISO standards and procedures.  Serves as lead on ISO 9001 – 2015 and operates as Lead Auditor.
2. From a Quality Assurance perspective, provide technical support for all new technology implementations and assist with training inspection staff in modern quality assurance methods and tools.
3. Drives continuous improvement activities in product quality and manufacturability through effective use of LEAN tools. LEAN leader.
4. Product testing and evaluation to support product compliance; ie: UL, CE, BHMA, etc.

5. Monitor production floor processes for conformance to control plans and customer requirements which includes fit, function, reliability, durability, and reappearance criteria.


1. Promote and maintain safety in the workplace. Observe established safety regulations and procedures.  Promote and maintain ISO in the workplace. Observe and establish ISO regulations and procedures.
2. Generate quality improvement suggestions and coach others to generate ideas. Assist with implementation of adopted suggestions.
3. Create, modify & analyze results of quality plans in keeping with changes in manufacturing processes and product designs.
4. Recommend design enhancements within engineering and cost parameters that will facilitate quality and process efficiency. Analyze part tolerances and recommend changes as required.
5. Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate a high degree of skill level as a leader and facilitator, including a demonstrated ability to organize and track projects.


QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Bachelor’s degree (BS) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school required, preferably Quality, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering; and/or ASQ (American Society of Quality) Certified Quality Engineer
• Desire five years quality engineering, technician, and/or continuous improvement experience in a manufacturing environment in an ISO certified facility.
• A plus is LEAN/6 Sigma Certifications – Green/Black Belt, or Master Black Belt.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.


• Ability to read and understand G,D&T (Geometric, Dimensioning, and Tolerancing) at any ANSI/ASME release.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
• Understanding of statistical methods as applied to the practice of quality control.
• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Experienced leading organization thru Short Term Resolution via a Non Conformance and Deviation process as well as a permanent Corrective Action process.  8D’s experience desired.
  • Experienced in driving high level quality improvements thru use of data (Pareto’s, Yields, Scrap, etc…)
  • A plus is programming and operating Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) Software (PC-DMIS).
  • Experienced at ISO-9001 2015 Standards and leading an organization thru:
  1. Making improvements to the Quality Management System (QMS)
  2. Leading Internal and External Audits.
  3. Suggesting Cross Functional Changes to the Core Procedures that will be used in an ISO-9001 audit. 
  4. Understanding of statistical methods as applied to the practice of quality control and ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations.

1. Experience with electro-mechanical parts and assemblies in a manufacturing environment.
2. Knowledge leader in implementation and effective utilization of Lean manufacturing.
3. Lead the PFMEA activities when required.
4. Other duties, as required, such as communication with and travel to customers, suppliers, trade shows and training sites.
5. Communicate and interface with all levels of company organization.
