Position Description
The Quality Engineer is responsible to observe and investigate onsite problems, report findings to stakeholders, and contribute to improve customer relations and supply chain quality.
Major Areas of Responsibility and Authorities
Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Safety minded in all work activities; suggest and recommend safety initiatives; commitment to safe work habits, maintaining work are organized aligned with 5S.
- Works closely with the quality manager, customers, and engineering and production teams to research and analyze non-conformances, shortages and other issues related to customer non-satisfaction as well as in-process manufacturing issues. (Root cause and corrective actions)
- The primary focus for this position will be, root cause analysis on problems in the installation and service. This includes both installation quality issues, sales planning issues, customer site issues and product issues through supply chain
- Determines quality improvement opportunities from the above analysis and raises awareness of the importance of quality through training and working with others.
- Provide inspection data and quality assurance reports to senior management as necessary.
- Establishes statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error; determining levels of process confidence.
- Develop sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods.
- Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Engage with quality, engineering and manufacturing teams; regarding the non-conforming materials (NCM’s) process seeking resolves to issues that meet and exceed both the Company and customer’s expectations.
- Manage transition from old products being discontinued to new products being introduced
- Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Company.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the role:
- Minimum, bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of experience in a similar engineering position
- Understanding of QA processes for data collection and analysis (5-why’s, corrective action, 8-D, etc.)
- Process Improvement and Development using quality tools (5-why’s, corrective action, 8-D, etc.)
- Detailed oriented, well-organized; self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Installation and service experience of pedestrian door industry is a plus
Physical Demands
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of the Quality Engineer position, the employee will be required to travel to install sites as well as customer locations to evaluate and report issues found.
