Position Description

The Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for performing the development or improvement of production equipment, processes and methods.  The typical cycle includes conceptualizing and developing prototypes as well as testing and perfecting designs.  

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Align with the Operations Manager to lead the safety of all plant operations, human resources and equipment.  Commit and support all safety procedures and policies. 
  • Study time, methods, and speed involved in production to establish standard workflow rate and improve efficiency.
  • Support the Industrialization of new product in the factory through developing systems and layouts that follow Lean manufacturing philosophies such as One-Piece Flow, Poke-Yoke and KanBan.
  • Prepare manufacturing documentation and provide training and guidance to all employee levels.
  • Drive and support continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations using Lean, Six Sigma, and other process optimization methodologies.
  • Recommend technology or computer aids, product design changes and workspace layout modification to existing production standards to achieve optimum quality and efficiency.
  • Identify inefficiencies, analyze root causes, and implement sustainable solutions to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Observes operations to ensure that employees and equipment comply with safety regulations, identifies cost-saving opportunities, troubleshoots machinery, and report all deficiencies.
  • Coordinate projects, lead and direct meetings.
  • Contribute to team effort by collaborating with members of various departments including Engineering, Quality and Production.
  • Embrace a fast-paced environment that requires a sense of urgency in relation to the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Autonomous, having the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction using a hands-on approach; providing support as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Company.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the Manufacturing Process Engineer role:

  • Minimum, bachelor’s degree in industrial or mechanical engineering and 2+ years of experience in a similar engineering position.
  • Ability to read and understand machining & assembly drawings.
  • Technical understanding with a hands-on approach.
  • Strong background in Lean manufacturing methodologies and experience in implementing improvements in an assembly environment. (Kanban, Poke-Yoke, JIT, Value Stream Mapping).
  • Design and application knowledge of ergonomic and machine safety standards.
  • AutoCad/Solidworks/MS Office suite.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to objectively review, understand and organize data.
  • Process Improvement and Development using quality tools (5-why’s, corrective action, 8-D, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers; problem resolution skills; understand competitive market; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Detailed oriented, well-organized; self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Dependable and self-motivated.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is primarily moderate to loud.
