ASSA ABLOY Door Controls Group in Monroe, NC is the North American Center of Excellence for Door Motion Control products. Primarily sold under the Norton and Rixson brand names, we have manufactured and distributed mechanical and electro-mechanical door closers, low energy door operators, concealed door closers, and various accessories related to door motion control from this location for more than 60 years. 

We are seeking a Senior Buyer with a Strong Drive to achieve exceptionally high quality, overall best price, and truly high value Suppliers, Products, and Services for our business.   Our Senior Buyers engage directly with engineering, quality, and manufacturing.  Our Supply Chain team does more than just look at a screen and talk on the phone.  The Supply Chain team is so very much valued for the difficult and important jobs they perform to support our customers’ needs and expectations.

Reporting to Supply Chain Manager and working with a team 6 Supply Chain professionals, the Senior Buyer is responsible for performing cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities and coordinating procurement activities with manufacturing and engineering to build strategies and procurement decisions.  Manage cost, schedule, and scope of assigned contracts to assure best quality and best value.  Assist Manager in development of inventory management strategies and procedures.

 

As Senior Buyer, what will you be doing?

 

In this role, the Senior Buyer will:

  • Outline process and implement cost/price/value analysis on supplier’s products and services.
  • Develop and oversee Kanban management in the plant.
  • Heavily involved in negotiations of all purchased parts, components and materials.
  • Develop material management strategies for potential supplier contractual relationships.
  • Manage and measure supplier performance and provide reports on such to management to encourage continual improvement of processes and products/services.
  • Engage with quality, engineering and manufacturing regarding the non-conforming materials (NCM’s) process seeking resolves to issues that both meet both the Company and customer’s expectations.
  • Prepare management reports and maintain official records and documentation to support Company procurement activity.
  • Communicate with accounting and vendors regarding invoice discrepancies to ensure balance between contractual purchase orders and invoices.
  • Embrace a fast-paced environment that requires a sense of urgency in relation to the needs of both internal and external customers.
  • Manage transition from old products being discontinued to new products being introduced
  • Measure effectiveness of the Company’s procurement processes and recommend improvements.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Company.

 

What skills we are looking for in the ideal candidate?

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university in supply chain, business, or engineering. 
  • Certified Purchasing Manager is desired, but not required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of procurement experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent problem resolution skills and a thorough understanding of competitive markets. 
  • Setting up Kanban material system experience is required.  Proven experience in Lean or other continuous improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts and standards of procurement, to include price analysis, negotiations, ethics, and purchasing law.  Experience and demonstrated success in having worked on capital projects.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office skills (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
  • Prior procurement software experience, JDE experience is preferred.
  • Detailed oriented, well-organized; self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision.
