Buyer/Production Planner – AAES - PDS NA

Reports to:

Materials Manager

 

 

Position Description

This position is responsible for the complete purchasing cycle for a specific product group, including, planning, purchase order processing, MRO purchasing, cost savings and assisting in the RMA process to insure the highest level of performance from AAES processes and Besam end products.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, create, and expedite purchase orders as required.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels while assisting the company in achieving inventory goals.
  • Problem-solve and supply information relating to purchasing and receiving; must develop good working knowledge of ERP.
  • Analyze sales order releases with respect to capacity planning and material requirements.
  • Manage inventory, levels, schedules and availability of selected items, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules. 
  • Review work-in-process material sweeps from production floor.
  • Interface with manufacturing personnel, the purchasing department and supervisors on materials status and production planning issues.
  • Receiving, BOM adjustments, make inventory adjustments where required.
  • Assist in conducting semi-annual inventories.
  • Help develop and reinforce proper inventory practices.
  • Daily assembly and review of Inventory Shortage Exception report to determine any potential inventory shortfalls and respond accordingly.
  • Weekly inventory review.  Verify on-hand against ERP and lead time.  Adjustment and release of Kanban items via email.
  • Daily review of lot quantities and BOM errors for all 901 direct and indirect materials.  Ensure Kanban cards are submitted.  Plan and order accordingly. 
  • Manage and maintain Kanban, order and manifest acknowledgements in ERP to insure timely receipt of materials versus projected usage.
  • Assist in cost savings initiatives and supplier rationalization.
  • Incoming inspection of certain critical components.  Track material and other new source items from consolidation.
  • Weekly follow-up of past due orders with suppliers.
  • Monthly pre-follow-up of open orders to insure new orders have not been missed.
  • Daily visual monitoring of critical Kanban items via plant walk-throughs.
  • Identify new items for direct Kanban program to reduce inventory.
  • MRO purchasing.
  • Interim and backup duties of the shipping manager as needed.
  • Work with freight forwarders to track incoming international shipments
  • Other tasks as needed or assigned.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the Buyer/Planner role:

  • Must have experience using MRP systems and applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have experience with all Microsoft office applications.
  • Strong systems/process orientation with analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Excellent project management and follow-up skills.

 

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors in Business Administration desired.
  • APICS Certification a plus.
  • A minimum of two years of Buyer/Planner and warehouse inventory management experience.
  • Other:
    • Computer skills (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel).

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.  Exposure to intermediate/loud noise is expected when working in the manufacturing environment.
