We are seeking to hire an Electronic Hardware Designer who will lead the design, development, and lifecycle management of Wesko Locks’ electronic products. As an experienced Designer, this individual will collaborate cross functionally with various team members, work to streamline internal processes and have an interest in continuous improvement efforts.

 

This role will report to the Director of Engineering and sit on-site in Mississauga, ON.  

 

What will you be doing

  • Design, develop, and maintain electronic hardware for new and existing products.
  • Design production tools and fixtures.
  • Create schematics and support Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout and design.
  • Collaborate with firmware, software, and mechanical teams, both internal and external.
  • Develop and manage Engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Document assembly processes and provide training as needed.
  • Perform root cause analysis on complex production issues and implement corrective actions with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to internal teams and customers.
  • Develop systems aligned with product requirements and cost targets.
  • Support validation, verification, and environmental testing.
  • Assist with on-site customer support when required.
  • Partner with sales and stakeholders to validate product requirements.
  • Monitor component lifecycle and identify alternatives for end-of-life parts.
  • Contribute technical expertise across departments and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower environmental impact.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement efforts; document and communicate changes.
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support evolving business needs.

 

What are we looking for

  • Must hold 7–10 years of hands-on experience in electronic hardware design or a similar role.
  • Must be well versed in electronic product design, BOM management, and engineering change processes.
  • Must have hands-on soldering experience.
  • Must be able to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency CAD/EDA tools, Altium, and/or SolidWorks is required.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, technical drawings, and electronic specifications; experience maintaining engineering documentation supporting change control processes; ability to produce Gerber files for manufacturing (required).
  • Demonstrate advanced root cause problem-solving skills and technical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes related to electro-mechanical assemblies, component lifecycle management and end-of-life (EOL) replacement strategies.
  • Eligibility: Legally entitled to work in Canada (required).
  • Occasional lifting or movement of materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Role requires occasional travel up to 5%.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with battery assemblies, power management, or battery life–related products is preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor degreed professional preferred in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field of study.
