Supervisor - Shipping
Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for building and maintaining a solid team whose sole purpose is to meet or exceed customers’ expectations in a profitable manner. This is achieved through daily active leadership in the application of continuous improvement methodologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Establish and maintain standard work for all areas of oversight.
Coach and mentor associates in continuous improvement tools: 5S, problem solving (5 Why) and waste removal Kaizen.
Communicate needs, set priorities and coordinate the production and resources to effectively execute production schedules in order to meet or exceed customer’s expectations for on time and full (OFR).
Balance safety, quality and production to achieve profitable results.
Teach and apply departmental performance measures (KPI’s), including visual controls (SQDC/HRxHR) in your area of oversight and act as an ambassador for these tools across the factory floor.
Manage priorities accordingly: safety and incident investigations, inventory levels, product quality and daily production output.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Lead and manage assigned personnel within specified work groups ranging from 15 to 50 employees. This position leads all associates of the department and is responsible for the performance management and leadership of the associates within that department. Must perform duties while maintaining confidentiality when required. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state and local regulations. Achieve high levels of customer satisfaction through excellence in receiving, identifying, dispatching and assuring quality of goods. Organize and maintain inventory and storage areas. Ensure shipments and inventory transaction accuracy is maintained. Communicate job expectations and coach employees on correct best methods. Confer and coordinate activities with other departments. Measure and report the effectiveness of associate’s performance. Interface with customers both internal and external to answer questions or solve problems.
Qualifications: Associate’s degree from two-year college or university with emphasis on manufacturing / production management or a similar area of study as well as 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have prior experience working in a supervisory role in a manufacturing environment with exposure to common manufacturing procedures including assembly, CNC machine operations and other common manufacturing procedures.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Good listening skills. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to create graphs and charts and effectively communicate the meaning of these documents to individuals or groups of employees.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the supervisor is exposed to moving mechanical parts and electrical circuits. The supervisor is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in some production areas are above 85db and hearing protection may be required. Eye protection must be worn at all times on production floor. Temperatures in the winter are as low as 50 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 85+ degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
JDE-Inventory Systems: A working knowledge of JDE or similar system for material issuance and inventory control is a must.
