Product Engineer

This role is an ASSA ABLOY Door-Group level position supporting our Norshield and Curries brands. This role will be based on-site at one of our manufacturing facilities in  either Montgomery, Alabama or Mason City, Iowa.

What would you do as our Product Engineer?

You will play a critical role in analyzing product design requirements in close partnership with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders. Your focus will be ensuring new and improved designs meet customer expectations while balancing functionality, sustainability, reliability, manufacturability, and aesthetics. You will also support the validation of manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and quality standards are consistently achieved.

You would also: 

  • Prepare and maintain product and design specifications, design guidelines, and design plans
  • Research and evaluate customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and related data to assess feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements
  • Develop detailed drawings for new or improved product designs using CAD software
  • Create and support execution of product test plans, including alpha, beta, durability, and compliance testing
  • Apply engineering analysis tools (DFMEA, PFMEA, VSA, FEA, etc.) to identify and mitigate potential product or process risks
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and internal stakeholders to support material selection aligned with sustainability and ASSA ABLOY guidelines
  • Develop and document specifications for purchased materials and components
  • Support product costing activities, including material, labor, and overhead considerations
  • Participate in Value Analysis / Value Engineering initiatives to meet customer requirements at optimal manufacturing cost
  • Support testing and verification activities for internal requirements and external certification agencies (e.g., UL, Intertek, FBC) and industry organizations (e.g., SDI, NAAMM/HMMA)
  • Participate in field activities with Product Management, including Voice of Customer (VOC) efforts, to inform design enhancements and new product development
  • Actively contribute to a safe, collaborative, and respectful working environment
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate governance policies, AADG programs, and the ASSA ABLOY Code of Conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

The Skills and Experience you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Product Design Engineering
  • Prior experience in product engineering, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience or exposure to sheet metal product design and fabrication is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience using CAD tools such as AutoCAD, ProEngineer, or SolidWorks, with the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.)
