Legal Counsel

 

 

ASSA ABLOY is seeking a skilled and commercial Legal Counsel  to join the Group Legal team. Reporting directly to the VP & General Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting Group functions—primarily IT procurement—by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements and providing legal guidance on a wide range of corporate and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with a primary focus on IT-related contracts, including:
    • SaaS agreements
    • IT services agreements
    • Consultancy and professional services contracts
    • Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements
    • Data processing and cybersecurity agreements
  • Support and advise Group functionsprimarily IT procurementon RFP processes and other contractual matters.
  • Advise on various corporate and commercial legal matters as needed.
  • Provide guidance on regulatory frameworks including GDPR, AI regulation, information security and cybersecurity laws (e.g., NIS2 Directive, EU AI Act), and export controls and trade sanctions as they relate to contractual engagements.
  • Support the vetting of counterparties for compliance with trade sanctions, sustainability requirements, regulatory obligations, and internal policy standards.
  • Advise on legal and contractual positions in potential disputes.
  • Instruct and coordinate with external counsel when required.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Group IT, Information Security, and other internal stakeholders to manage contractual risks and ensure compliance with laws and Group policies.
  • Maintain, align, and update contract templates for Group Center and across divisions.
  • Deliver training and raise awareness regarding contract templates, sourcing processes, and related legal topics within Group Center and, when needed, across divisions.

  • Procurement
  • Group IT and Information Security
  • VP & General Counsel and other Group Legal team members
  • Divisional legal teams

You will act as a trusted advisor within your remit and support decision-making through clear, business-focused legal advice.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Law (LL.M or equivalent).
  • At least five years of experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial and IT-related agreements, ideally from a reputable law firm or corporate in-house environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial contract law, privacy and data protection, AI regulation, information security and cybersecurity regulations, and other legal frameworks relevant to IT agreements.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; Swedish or other languages are beneficial.
  • Solid proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong legal and business judgment with the ability to balance risk, commercial priorities, and compliance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and tight timelines.
  • Ability to proactively identify issues, propose solutions, and support both strategic and day-to-day initiatives.
  • Exceptional drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills and the ability to build consensus across functions.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and resilience in a dynamic environment.
