Site Controller

The position of Controller will report directly to the VP of Finance, Door Systems with additional reporting and support responsibilities to the Swedish parent organization ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems. This position would be working in our Mississauga office, with travel to our London office once a week. 

 

The Controller will lead the regional finance team and is a key business partner for Dock Products Canada, Inc. The Controller has primary responsibility for the organization’s financial planning and analysis, accounting, inventory control, risk management and insurance, capital expenditure oversight, and corporate compliance. The successful candidate will roll up their sleeves to assure the right finance practices and business policies to guide and support a rapidly growing and changing business. They will build a close and effective business partnership with the General Manager, and with the parent company finance leadership. 

 

Responsibilities: 
•    Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process for all of Dock Products Canada Inc.
•    Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization's financial status. 
•    Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
•    Overseeing all financial activities, reporting on revenue, accounting staff, budgeting, disbursing funds, managing risk, implementing policies, and improving financial processes.
•    Ensure financial integrity and accountability and maintain internal controls
•    Prepare supporting documents for preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, including working with the auditors.
•    Generate timely monthly, quarterly, yearly and project specific financial reports in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) and present to Door Systems Leadership
•    Oversee audit activities and ensure compliance with the government
•    Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls, financial systems and financial procedures.
•    Lead facilities, inventory and other administrative functions, supported by Operations 
•    Ensure all insurance policies renewed on an annual basis.
•    Oversee accounting team (accounts receivable, collections, payables etc).
•    Perform other tasks as requested by Senior Leadership.
•    Partner with the General Manager to provide insights and action items from a financial perspective.
•    Build strong relationships with field operations team to help support business growth initiatives.
•    Management of month end close processes within tight deadlines.
•    Perform Ad Hoc analysis for leadership and parent organization.
•    Ensure compliance with all external regulatory and legal requirements.
•    Responsible for building, developing, and coaching a high performing team. 
•    Create and document business processes and accounting policies.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
•    Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or MBA (preferred)
•    Must have extensive knowledge in both IFRS and USGAAP standards
•    Minimum 5-10 years’ experience controlling 
•    Relevant experience with ERP and other systems integration.
•    Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word) with an ability to quickly learn new software. 
•    Must be able to work independently
•    Strong attention to detail
•    An unquestionable, internalized sense of ownership and accountability
•    Experience managing a team of AR/AP in multiple locations
•    Effective written/verbal communication skill across multiple business areas
•    Ability to successfully and motivationally lead a diverse team
•    Desire in continuous development of immediate team
•    Understanding operational process flows and how they impact financial results
•    Ability to adapt and maintain performance in changing work environment
•    Experience with acquisitions and ERP implementation is ideal
•    Ability to meet weekly, monthly, and quarterly deadlines 
•    Ability to travel ~50%
