What you would do as our Operations Manager
This new post sits within the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for leading and transforming the company’s operational functions, including factory production, resource and project planning, continuous improvement, procurement and site installation teams. This is a strategic and hands‑on leadership role focused on delivering world‑class operational performance through improved efficiency, increased productivity, reduced costs, enhanced quality, and outstanding customer delivery. You would also:
• Develop and execute an operations strategy that delivers major improvements in productivity, throughput, cost efficiency and customer service and oversee end to end manufacturing operations for steel and timber doors, and outsourcing of fire curtains, glazed screens, and specialist engineered products.
• Manage labor utilization, resource allocation, and daily/weekly production scheduling, own the overall production schedule and ensure capacity planning aligns with sales demand and ensure planning aligns across procurement, production, installation and logistics.
• Lead the Continuous Improvement roadmap to deliver waste reduction, lean flow, reduced takt time, OEE, SMED and data visibility and reporting and oversee procurement strategy to reduce material costs as a percentage of sales and secure a reliable supply chain and develop and execute an operations strategy that delivers major improvements in productivity, throughput, cost efficiency and customer service.
• Lead the site installation team to ensure right-first-time, professional, safe and timely installation of all products, coordinating between factory production, logistics and contracts management teams and own product quality across manufacturing and installation, reducing cost of poor quality, defects, NCRs and re-work.
• Ensure a safety-first culture across all operational teams, ensuring compliance with all safety legislation, risk assessments, machine guarding and safe systems of work, build and maintain a workforce culture based on accountability, respect, teamwork and loyalty and ensure adequate training is provided to support development opportunities, and to ensure quick on-boarding of new staff.
The skills and experience you need
We are looking for someone who has:
• Significant experience in an operations, production, or manufacturing management role within doors, construction products, or engineered components and proven track record of managing factory operations, including production planning, procurement, workflow optimization, labor allocation, and output performance to budget and has experience overseeing teams across manufacturing, assembly, CNC machining, finishing and quality control.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver OTIF (On Time In Full) performance in a fast paced, custom build manufacturing environment and Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting tools.
• Strong understanding of door manufacturing processes (timber, steel, aluminum), door set assembly, tolerances, and hardware integration, fire door and acoustic compliance requirements, also understanding of CE/UKCA marking, certification, and traceability.
• Experience working with main contractors, certification bodies, or external auditors and has knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, or similar quality and safety systems.
