What you would do as our Patent Attorney and Portfolio Manager
The Attorney plays a central role in protecting and strengthening ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems’ innovation landscape. Operating in a global engineering and product-driven environment, the role focuses on managing a significant share of the company’s active patent portfolio while ensuring alignment with the IP strategy. You will work closely with R&D teams and Product Managers to identify new inventions, secure patent protection, analyze third-party rights, and guide the business on IP-related risks and opportunities. This is a strategic and hands-on role requiring both legal depth and strong technical understanding within electronics, telematics, or software.
You will report to the to the Entrance System Division Head of Intellectual Property.
You would also:
• Manage and prosecute part of the company’s patent portfolio, including drafting, office actions, oppositions, and strategic filings.
• Collaborate with R&D and Product Managers to identify patentable inventions and drive high-quality invention harvesting.
• Conduct and report freedom-to-operate investigations, third-party risk assessments, and infringement analyses.
• Monitor relevant competitor patents and evaluate third-party IP to ensure compliance and protect innovation.
• Ensure adherence to the IP strategy while supporting global stakeholders on IP matters.
The skills and experience you need
We are looking for someone who:
• Is a qualified European or national Patent Attorney with at least five years of relevant experience.
• Holds a strong technical background within electronics, telematics, or software at a Master’s level or similar.
• Possesses proven experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, including handling oppositions and FTO assessments.
• Demonstrates a solid ability to evaluate competitor patents and assess third-party IP exposure.
• Has strong communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams.
Success in this role requires a combination of autonomy, analytical strength, and strong interpersonal skills. You must be comfortable working with senior technical stakeholders, guiding them through IP decisions while building trust and credibility. The ability to listen, translate technical complexity into clear recommendations, and drive structured IP processes is essential. Strong judgement, diplomacy, and a proactive mindset are important, as the role requires both independent decision-making and close collaboration. A solution-oriented attitude, curiosity, and the confidence to challenge assumptions will help you thrive in a global and fast-moving environment.
