Job Summary

As a Project Engineer for Pfister Faucets, you will design and develop new products that meet product proposals and design critical-to-quality (CTQ) requirements. In this role you will create prototype models to evaluate new concepts and reduce risk. Understand and use geometric tolerances and statistical process control (SPC) principles. While integrating the needs of end users, customer service and manufacturing to provide optimum designs that exceed competitive offerings. You will also approve the disposition of first piece inspections on new parts as required.  At times, you may serve as Program/Project Leader for technical development projects.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Executes engineering activities for multiple projects and priorities work to align with business and department goals.  Designs components and/or sub-assemblies using Pro-Engineer.  Has complete understanding of the interdependencies of the product and impact on manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Uses analytic software and/or prototyping to demonstrate product feasibility with more complex designs and a higher level of efficiency.  Distinct knowledge of what needs to be prototyped or evaluated to ensure product integrity.  Can present credible results and back-up with sound theory and strong data.
  • Advanced understanding of GD&T.  Conducts tolerance analysis of multi-part assemblies.  Has solid understanding of design for Six Sigma tools and manufacturing process capabilities.
  • Is proficient in creating cost estimates for new products.
  • As a team leader, works with suppliers and/or manufacturing to develop new or enhance existing components and assemblies.
  • Writes test procedures and test plans and works with lab technicians to develop testing fixtures as needed.
  • Develops and maintains accurate and complete engineering documentation, i.e. design layouts, BOM, detail and assembly drawings.
  • Evaluates and executes engineering change documents as required.  Fully understands engineering change process.
  • Provides optimized designs that incorporate knowledge of customer service requirements, end user needs and manufacturing requirements while exceeding competitive offerings.
  • Creates project timelines for the entire scope of a project.
  • Can write patent disclosures and identify the novel design features.  Assists patent attorneys to craft claims to gain the broadest protection possible.
  • Advanced understanding of DFMEA and design review processes.  Is able to lead the DFMEA process.

 

Education and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.  Mechanical preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience required, preferably in a high-volume consumer products industry. 
  • Experience in designing parts that use screw machining, injection molding, die casting, stamping, and forging processes preferred.
  • Experience working with suppliers in Asia is a plus.
  • Experience working in plumbing or fluid delivery fields is a plus.

 

 

 

Required Skills

  • Owns product design integrity. Understands and drives product development processes, practices, and standards.  Thorough knowledge of all applicable industry and company standards.  Incorporates design for six sigma methodologies.
  • Sound knowledge of design practices and principles, including engineering mathematics and computation, CAD/CAE tools, GD&T, and technical report writing.
  • Effectively aligns and balances engineering goals to cross-functional, global, and business unit goals and priorities.
  • Creates, owns and adheres to schedule and budget for assigned projects.  Helps groups reach consensus in direction and action.  Takes final responsibility for design integrity and engineering support on all assigned products. 
  • Understands impact of product design to the overall business objectives and strategies.  Has full ownership of Individual Development Plan (IDP) creation and execution. 
  • Encourages networking between appropriate associates and suppliers. Structures and communicates effectively, especially in team presentations.
  • Has the ability to lead a team in product development or process/system innovation. Trains technical people and deploys technical knowledge. Understands and can quantify end user/customer requirements.  Has the ability to effectively lead peers when required.
  • Strong knowledge and use of analytical software (e.g. Pro-Mechanical); may evaluate and select analytical software for technical area.  Strong knowledge and use of the Windchill suite of programs, including Pro-Engineer, PDM-Link, and Project-Link, in developing new product concepts and communicating final configuration to manufacturing. 

 

Work Environment:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Hybrid work in our Lake Forest, CA office 3 days/week.
  • Up to 20% domestic and international travel

 

Pay Range: $93,987-$137,848.

 

This “base salary range” is a reasonable estimate for this position at the time of posting. Pay within each range is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, to primary work job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location. ASSA ABLOY conducts regular review of compensation ranges and therefore reserves the right to alter this range at any given time.
