Senior Accountant

 

Job Title: Senior Accountant (Maternity Leave Contract) 
Location: Abbotsford, BC

Door Systems is seeking candidates for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Western Canada head office team, based in Abbotsford, BC. The Senior Accountant assists the Controller with General Accounting, Tax and Planning/Budgeting tasks as well as the bi-weekly payroll processing. This role is also involved with some accounts receivable and accounts payable functions. All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with Door Systems Accounting Standards, Internal Control Standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and create adjusting journal entries to accounts as needed.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly analysis of key management financial data as requested.
  • Assisting with recording fixed assets additions and maintaining the fixed assets sub-ledger
  • Payroll - Data entry, verifying and posting bi-weekly payroll for Door Systems. Understanding and applying the Collective Agreement and non-union company policies as applicable to payroll. Maintaining accurate employee records, account statuses and database consistency in ADP
  • Document internal accounting controls and job processes. Create/maintain detailed procedure manual of job tasks.
  • Reconcile company bank and credit card processing accounts regularly throughout the month
  • Assist with monthly and annual financial closing schedule
  • Maintain monthly recurring journal entry schedule. Coordinate input of journal entries into SAGE300 and maintain journal entry documentation
  • Generate the monthly Sales Commission Report
  • Union – creates and maintains the Union Fringe Reporting and annual wage updates.
  • Assist with preparation of Regulatory, Provincial and Federal business and tax reporting.
  • Working to continually improve and streamline the accounting and reporting functions through the use of software and data management tools.
  • Supporting company initiatives and culture.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum 4 years demonstrated experience in a full cycle accounting role.
  • Formal post-secondary training in accounting and demonstrable knowledge of GAAP.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software, experience with Sage 300 is preferred.
  • General understanding of internal controls as well the use of compensating controls.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures.
